Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Steve saw the article about Topeka’s from yesterday and forwarded this ad. He thought it was a custom rig. This runs and drives.

The rear sides of the wagon have been trimmed, but otherwise this seems solid.

UPDATE: More photos added, including interior shots. It’s clearly a compilation of parts. It is listed as a 1950 M-38, but the body and fenders are MBish or aftermarket MBish. Unclear why there are no tool indents on driver’s side.

(11/18/2014) Looks like a solid Fire Jeep.
“For Sale: 1962 Willies Military Jeep. 12k original miles. Aside from upgraded wheels/rims, roll cage and seats. Everything is original. 6 volt system has been upgraded to a 12 volt system. No rust, runs great. Originally was OD green. It was painted white when put in service by the civil defense. It has been used as a small brush truck. Winch and tools not included. We received an AFG grant and need to sell this to help pay for the grant. Asking $8500 or best offer.”

“What you are looking at is an original 1946 CJ2A Willys Jeep that has been painted like a military Jeep. The jeep is a project Jeep. It does not run or drive as of now. It’s fairly complete and the body is pretty solid. It will need floor patching or repair if you wanted to make it perfect. The sides of the body have no bondo on them and are very solid and pretty straight. All you see on the Jeep goes with the Jeep. ”

The front frame rails have been lengthened.
“I have a ’47 jeep cj2 with Chevy 350, t-15 3 speed transmission, Dana spicer 20 transfer case and power steering, axles, and suspension from a later model cj. New BFG tires. Runs and drives but sometimes grinds out of reverse when backing up. It was previously tagged and inspected but they have expired. Looking to trade for 2010 and up Polaris RZR 800 and up or a Harley Davidson. I would also be interested in a multiple high end gun trade. Open to other offers also. Starting my morning in Brooklyn at Barnes and Nobles. I’d misread the subway, so got off tow stops later than planned. At least I didn’t misread it all the way to Manhattan!
I ran out of time to update you on most of Wednesday’s adventures. However, Ann did post her version of my day on Facebook.
Traveler update. Poor David: it’s dangerous for him to travel without me… To start with, his plane got in at 7amish (an hour late), and included a woman passing out in the aisle next to him (hope it’s not Ebola). He’s gotten almost no sleep OR food in two days. His morning adventure was to visit a grave of a family friend and someone he’s done considerable research on. After a long walk from the train to hotel all the while dragging his bags he faced another long walk to the cemetery, only to find the cemetery much more vast than expected.
And that’s when IT START RAINING.
Undaunted he plodded-on but the grave wasn’t where that dang google map said it should be so he looked it up on the cemetery map, but then it started raining harder. Now my poor soaked traveler recognized an important fact: He should always listen to his wife, but more on that later.
Realizing his folly poor David tried to leave only to find a locked gate. Bewildered, cold, hungry, and soggy, and tired, he used his iPhone to look for an escape route…… but then, it died. In the end he had to trudge his way ALL the way back across the cemetery blinded by foggy rain splattered glasses, alone, all connection to the outside world lost, paranoid the cemetery was acting against him….wanting him to remain forever.
Thankfully, he made it out alive and was able to get a cab right away. He’s now back at his hotel and tucked into a warm bed to sleep while his sweater and only pair of jeans hopefully dry out. Now, I had to recommend a few times that he should:
1. Take more cabs and not kill himself walking all over hell and gone.
2. He should really really get a new phone since he’s been having so much trouble with his current one.
And 3! Take a darn coat. It’s winter and rain is expected in the forecast. My poor guy. While I love being right, heheheee, I don’t love it so much at his expense. Let’s hope the rest of his trip goes better then theses first few hours.
In her explanation, she missed one important encounter I’d forgotten to mention to her . . .
While walking in downtown Brooklyn this morning, some woman walking toward me stopped 20 yards in front of me, lifted her jacket, grabbed her crotch, and shouted “DO YOU WANT TO LICK MY P(female part)Y!?! WELL DO YOU!?! I was pretty shocked! So, was the middle aged woman pushing a stroller with a child in it just in front of me. Both of us froze while the eager, exuberant woman tried to convince us we should sample her wares, “C’MON, DO YA?”
Needless to say I and the stroller-pusshing woman both declined the generous offer and walked purposefully and briskly passed her.
On the bright side, I did have a fantastic burger at the Burger Bistro on 5th Street. They made burgers out of beef, Kobe beef, tuna, chicken, lamb, vegetables, and turkey! I splurged on a Medium rare Kobe burger. It was fantastic. Now, if only they’d made fresh fries.
Kobe beef, caramelized onion, chipotle (spicy!) sauce and hot pepper cheese. It was great!
Joe just picked up this rare Topeka Highway Mower last month. Joe would love to find a soft door setup like is shown on this Topeka.

Marc found this great photo of jeeps positioned outside Weatherby’s sporting goods. The jeep on the left appears to be a GPW, while the one on the right is a CJ-2A. It was posted at the gentlemen’s sporting club. There is more history about the Weatherby’s, sporting goods, safaris, and rifles, but I’ll have to save that research for later.

Looks like the pair is priced at $3500. The 2A runs and the 3A doesn’t.
“I have two complete Jeep’s for sale. I would like to sell these as a pair. They are both partially restored and have new tires etc… I drove the 1947 quite a bit this summer, it ran great. Has been sitting in my shop the last couple of months and the last time I tried to start it, it would run for a while then die. I think the carb needs cleaned. The 1953 is complete but the engine is disassembled. They would be fun to tinker with this winter.”

“This is a 1954 Jeep Willys with all original parts and equipment.
It starts and drives good, and the 4×4, four wheel drive works good. It takes a lot to get it stuck. It has a hard top that can be removed. It has a strong running Continental engine. It even has a snow plow that was mounted on the front if you want to play with it.
The plow is raised by an electric winch. This has been kept as mainly a “toy to play with”
This is a CJ 2 or CJ 3 I think grandad said. It is one of the original Jeeps before they became the “wrangler””

Runs and drives, but has tranny noise.
“I have a 50 willy jeep flat fender, with a ford V8 motor, it has power steering and power brakes, It has a 3 speed trans with a T 18 transfer case, it has two gas tanks, it also has a winch on the front. It has a roll bar and a full bench seat with good upholstery. It does not have a back seat. The motor runs good, but the trans makes a lot of noise in 2nd and third gears. I have another 3 speed trans for it. I have a clean Nevada title for it The windshield is cracked and dirty and there is some rust in the usual places.I am only asking $1500 for the jeep as it does need some tlc, but it does run and you can drive it home if you don’t live to far from Carson City.
