“For sale is a 1975 US mail jeep in great shape. The jeep was bought at an auction and was in perfect running order. However it has been sitting for about 10 years and I do not know if it runs now. It only has one seat and all controls are on the right side of vehicle. The tires that are on it now are flat but haven’t tried putting air in them. Its been kept inside a barn since it was bought. “Up for sale is a 1949 willys. The motor is a good running 225 buick v6 but will need a water pump as the existing one leaks. The drivetrain including the trans, transfer, and diffs are original. The body is in fair shape for the age, showing some rust in the usual areas but easily fixable. Fenders are solid, having some filler but no rust what so ever just rough bodywork. Has new starter installed and many other brand new parts as well as used that come with it. It’s a good base for a project but I decided to go with a Landcruiser instead. Doron’s 1942 GPW Tribute to his Father

Doron Segal from Israel shared these photos. In memory of his father, Doron has rebuilt a 1942 GPW with the number “4062”. His father served in the “Samson Foxes“.

The two photos below are from a fifteenth club event in Israel, 2010 (see more current photos here). Doron can be seen driving his GPW in the first one:

Here are some vintage photos. They jeeps shown are a mix of MB/GPWs, CJ-2As and a Lefty CJ-2A. It looks like the rear extension was a must-have modification. Note the number on the jeep in the first photo.

Business Card for Bean’s Garage in Pennsylvania

David Silberman forwarded this vintage jeep business card. He writes, “Here is a scan of a business card from a Willys dealer in the area. They (brothers Ike and Joe) were an associate dealer and were very good with parts and repair. They also had a Koenig backhoe on a Jeep truck, which they used to dig graves, among other uses.

We bought a 1953 Aero Ace from them in 1955, and in 1958 bought a 1947 CJ2A. The Aero cost $1,000 and we got 200,000 miles out of it. The CJ was $300. We kept it until we traded it for a new CJ5 in 1960. They went out of the Jeep business in the early 60’s. I attended the auction of the place about 8 years ago. Joe was still alive at that time.

This brochure that Marc found shows the CJ-3A employed in a variety of jobs. The use of the triangle in the illustration is interesting.

“This listing is for a vintage advertisement. It is an ad for Willys Overland Motors of Toledo Ohio and their universal Jeeps. The ad folds out like a small poster. There is a dealer address stamp on it. I am not positive but I believe this advertisement is from the 1930’s. It is filled with information and pictures from that time frame. It is roughly 17″ x 11″ when it is unfolded.”

1957 Wagon Lexington, KY SOLD

The consensus is that this wagon is the same one as this 1956 single-door Florida wagon. The only difference we can spot are the license plates.

“Restored 1957 Jeep Willys, finished in blue and white. Mechanically sound: runs great, starts right up (it has a Buick V8 under the hood). Transfer case has been rebuilt. Tires are like new.

Cosmetically: It has never seen snow since being restored, and it has won multiple shows. No bondo, this Willys was restored properly. Very clean inside and out. Has single delivery door on the rear.

Clean Kentucky title, 2 sets of keys.”

“This Willy’s had a frame off restoration in 2007/2008, and has approximately 303 miles since restoration. Very little rust on frame or jeep body, original tub does have few bondo spots from previous owner, but professionally done. These body tubs can be purchased new and easily installed if a new looking Willy’s is your style – although, this Willy’s looks great as is. Strong original engine that was also re-built at restoration. All gauges work except the fuel gauge. 4×4 is perfect, as are the shifting capabilities. Radiator has been re-cored, so like new, and new thermostat was also installed.
Windshield w/wiper motor and complete extra frame included, orig. manual too. Frame is in excellent cond. sand blasted and primed!
I’ll deliver free within Vt.”

“This Jeep is the best of both worlds. We have enjoyed running in the dunes all weekend, letting the kids drive it all over. Then turn the bottle on and run 4.70’s at the sand drags. The Jeep has ran as fast as 4.68 at 69 mph. The drive train is a mild small block 400 which runs on pump gas, with a Mikes 400 trans w/brake and a 9″ Ford rearend with a spool. The nitrous set up is NOS which is right now set a about 150 hp. The nitrous has safety fuel pressure shut off to protect against damaged do to loss of fuel pressure. The electronics are MSD 6AL box, MSD Pro Billet distributor, MSD Pro blaster coil and a MSD 2 step box. The fuel system is a Holley Fuel pump with adjustable fuel pressure regulator and Holley carburetor. The Jeep has been remarkably reliable and consistent.”

Ed Wilson’s Jeeps

You may remember Ed Wilson’s father’s Egypt photos from yesterday. Well, Ed’s got a couple jeeps himself (a 1962 CJ-5 and a 1947 CJ-2A). Both have an unusual story.

Ed reports from Canada, “This is my first jeep that I got almost 20 years ago and have still not completed a restoration. Long story… but when I was buying it I was in the owners home looking at original photos in an album. I was very focused on the purchase and pictures, but then realized that I was in a room surrounded by gold records on the wall! It turns out, I was sitting on Bryan Adams bed in his bedroom of his family’s house. I ended up having a long talk with his mom and step dad.”

Here is the picture of my jeep with Bryan Adams step dad and his wife…not Bryan Adams mom the day of purchase. Note the winch.

This is after some use.

Now it’s ready for some work.

Ed’s second jeep is a 1947 CJ-2A. He writes, “My 47 cj2a has an interesting story as well. I purchased it from a guy that worked all his life in his dad’s jeep dealership. He has had a jeepster all his driving life and you can find a picture of it and his story in the link below. It is also a Kelowna jeep. His dad was named “Mr. Jeep” by Willys. You can learn more about “Mr. Jeep” by reading this story about “Mr. Jeep’s” first Jeepster (that he still owns):
