Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. UPDATE: It seems that a number of posts I’d created over the last few weeks hadn’t published correctly. My visit to the July MVPA Conference was one of them. So, there are a bunch of extra posts today! Enjoy.

On my way to Seattle today I detoured through Portland so I could spend some time at this year’s MVPA Conference. The event was held at the Portland Expo Center. The event seemed well attended, with many different vehicles and vendors. There were over thirty jeeps, too!
I couldn’t stay at the event too long, so I didn’t get a chance to mingle much. Besides Vern and Dennis, I spent some time talking with Joe from Vintage Wiring of Maine. He and Josh were discussing a wiring harness for Josh’s GPA project. I also spoke with the guys organizing the convoy trips that honor/celebrate some of the early trans US Highways. We discussed both using eWillys to promote the event and joining the 2015 Bankhead Route Convoy for part or all of the thirty day venture.
I’ve landed back in Renton for the next week. My mother has a long ‘sonny-do’ project list. I’ll also be disassembling Biscuit. I’m gonna be busy!

Leo spotted this video. The comparison is a silly one, since the Wrangle can’t perform any PTO tasks. Instead, it looks more like a Wrangler promo and less like a real story. That said it’s still fun to watch the 3A.

The name on the side of the jeep, Methow Valley, refers to an area on the east side of the Cascade Mountains along Highway 20. It’s a pretty area.

Hard to see the driver’s door dent.
“I have a 1954 4×4 WILLYS pickup truck with a PTO winch. It has the 226 6cyl. motor 3spd. Truck is all original except being changed to 12 volt system. It is not perfect, leaks a little oil from rear main and has a small dent in the drivers door but can be driven daily. This shifter is a double barrel shotgun. Don’t run across that everyday.
“Fairly rare 1951 Overland Willys Wagon for sale or possible trade. I drive this thing a few days a week but its time to make room in the driveway so looking to sell or possible trade for something of equal value and uniqueness. I acquired this wagon a few years ago and all the work was done by the previous owner who owned a mechanic shop. Has a strong running 283 with custom exhaust and lake pipes. Lowered a few inches for a cool looking stance, rides pretty smooth and has not failed me yet. All lights and brakes work fine, horn needs a relay. Tires are all in great condition with at least 70% tread left. Has custom double barrel shotgun shifter with what I believe to be a 4 speed automatic. Current with registration and I have pink in hand. Original black license plates. The pictures you see were taken about two to three weeks ago, not last year, and I didn’t water it down to make it look better – like most people do.

The factory frame was replaced with a “boxed” dj5 (postal jeep) frame….power steering…custom engine mounts…etc …..has a 1965 289 v8 (popped freeze plugs during winter…drained. griffin radiator (2 one inch cores) but apparently water left in block froze popping freeze plugs) with top loader 4 spd….twin stick….warn overdrive. Custom stainless bumpers. Confer shackles…. Needs finishing.”
