Year? CJ-3B Tuscaloosa, AL eBay

• CATEGORIES: CJ-3B This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

(12/26/2012) The seller lists this a s a 1946, so it could be a collection of parts.

“This is a 1956 Willys CJ3B. I have just installed a new carb and fuel pump. It does run and idle smoothly, but the plug wires, cap, etc need to be addressed.

Drivetrain: The drivetrain is complete and the transmission, transfer case, and axles are operational. The clutch does need adjustment.

Body: The body has some rust but would be a great project to repair while you use it. Almost all of the sheetmetal that needs repair is flat sheet, so only basic skills would be necessary to repair. I have two different hard tops and one set of doors. I am unsure of the manufacturer.

Brakes: The master cylinder has water in it, so the brakes will need to be gone through

Suspension: The front springs are sagging.

If you want this shipped you will need to arrange your own carrier. I have a loading dock available if needed and the Willys can be driven onto a trailer. There are no titles for vehicles this old in Alabama. It will come with a bill of sale only. NO TITLE! The Bronco buckets are not included and the top of the fuel tank needs repair.”

Jim’s Column Shift CJ-2A

• CATEGORIES: Builds, CJ-2A, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: Ted sent me more pics

Ted sent me a picture of his friend Jim’s jeeps. If anyone knows of a Mahl front loader, Jim would like to buy one.

Here’s the short list on all its options:
Koenig twin stick PTO
Ramsey front winch
K+K side mount sicle bar
Three point hitch with Newgen Buzz Saw
extremely rare Canfield fold out wrecker assembly
Westinghouse PT1 compressor under the hood
Dual wheel adapters front and rear
Ge welder which came from a parts jeep that had paperwork showing the factory option welder cost more than the actual cost of jeep itself back in 1946.

Every thing works as it should with the exception of the welder ,which actually has been tested out and works great but is not hooked up because with all the work done to this jeep in the restoration Jim could not bring himself to cut out the tool box section to install welder.

Canfield wrecker has been converted to armstrong type ,to make room on mid PTO pulley for KandK bar.

About all we figure the Willys needs now to complete the swiss army effect is a Mahl front end loader if anyone has one for sale.

Sandy Nearly Crunches Ted’s Plow Jeep

• CATEGORIES: Features, Reader Stories This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Ted’s CJ-5 was narrowly spared by Hurricane Sandy. Great pics!

Ted writes, “Hey Dave, here’s a few shots of a huge tree that came down during Sandy and almost got my new plow truck. I almost moved the CJ and my dump truck in back round before storm but never got to it. I got real lucky, the little CJ pushed her way through three and two feet deep snow storms later in the year!!!”

“I’ve had this great running little jeep for several years. I’m thinking I may want to pursue a different hobby so it may be time for my Jeep to move to a new home. I purchased this from a friend of mine (WWII aircraft mechanic) that used it at Centennial Airport to pull vintage airplanes around the hanger. The reported history is it was originally purchased by the US Navy in Hawaii and used as a shore patrol or similar right after the war. Although there were many Army jeeps in the area, the Navy purchased a few right after the war directly from local dealers (sounds like a mini-stimulus program). I verified this info from a WWII Jeep forum on the web called G503.com.

I can’t imagine these appear too often??

“AN/TVS-3 Searchlight. These units came out an Air Force base and are powered by 120/240volt 400hz. It appears to be in great condition but we do not have the proper generator to power these units. I do however know where a couple are located and will pass that information along to any successful bidders. 1942 GPW Albany, NY **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: GPW (Ford MB) This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

This runs, has not title, and needs work.

1942-gpw-albany-ny01

“I bought this GPW for the original top bows that it had and because she is a driver.  I will provide a bill of sale only, no title.  Due to that fact, I’m selling it as a parts jeep.  I planned to part it out but have decided to sell it as is since she’s a runner and I’m sure the right person can enjoy it for what it is.   If I don’t sell it I will use it around my property to move stuff around.  It appears to be a radio jeep due to four mounting holes on the fender well in the rear driver side by the tool box.   It also appears to have had a machine gun due to the four holes on the floor where the machine gun mount on the frame is.  The frame is decent with vin that matches the glove box. Engine is an MB engine.  Original paint can be seen where the civilian paint has been pressure washed off in many places.  The early windshield in the picture was removed but I have another early windshield with brass latches that will be included.   It will however need some repair.

Here’s a packed Jakkal from a Wikipedia entry:

It looks like this has a jeep like suspension with full floating hubs in the rear. Note how the winch until on the front folds down to allow the front clip to tilt forward.

Military Network Motor Pool Video

• CATEGORIES: Features, videos This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Deborah forwarded this video from Tom Townsend and the Military Network Motor Pool. The first segment deals with jeeps. To their credit they spend some time discussing jeep history and describing how to tell the differences between jeeps (ford vs mb and military vs civilian). But, I felt they could have covered the history more accurately.

For example, when discussing the Bantam prototype they showed pictures of the BRC-40 (3rd generation Bantam). They never showed any pictures of the Willys prototypes. They also suggested Willys got the contract for the jeep before Ford appeared. The reality is Ford not only submitted prototypes, but won the principal military contract, before it was taken away and given to Willys. Another mistake was that CJ-2As were produced starting in 1945 rather than 1946.

You can check out the entire episode here: http://www.hulu.com/watch/216750
