Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. With some paint and polish this might be a good truck.

This is a project with customer axles.

This appear solid. The seller believes this has a SN of 12325, but that would make this a 1946.

This was in a fire.
“Nice little Willys that was restored one point but was caught in a mild barn fire. Frame is great as well as the drivetrain and body is good but needs some attention in spots. The fire burnt the electrical, broke the glass and scorched the paint. I was going to keep it and fix the components to make it drive again and then not do anything to the body except clear coat the scorched paint. I’ve owned three of this year Willys and love them to drive and work on…super simple, open top 4×4 that draws attention anywhere! Comes with a bill of sale..no title, sorry. I will be listing this on eBay as well and taking it to the dog party if it hasn’t sold by then;)

This appears pretty stock, but does have a few updates.
“Great restoration project!!!!! I have replaced the brakes rewired most of the jeep, Jeep is road ready top speed 40-45 mph. Must see in person real nice jeep. I must sell not enough time to continue working on it. The 4×4 works has high and low range transmission is three speed. ALL NUMBERS MATCH, frame, block and body…Low 5 digit serial #! This is a gem that can be worth 15-20k once restored 5-7k when street legal. (12/18/2012) “I was told when i bought it that it was a 1946. I don’t have a title for it. It was a project that was never intended to be on road but could be if you wanted to get a new title for it. I believe it has a Chevy transmission and shortened drive shafts. I never even started working on it from the time I purchased it but will do my best to answer any questions you might have. Comes with a Chevy 305 engine out of an 80’s full size van (no engine installed). It seems to have a lift and some heavier suspension on it. The price is firm but I will take 100 less each week until the price is down to 1000. If no one buys it by that time I will keep it.”

I just ran across this article about the 1964 Jeep Derby on my computer. It’s pretty interesting. I have several other Jeep Derby articles in magazines that I still need to scan.

THE TWO FRONT TIRES ON THE JEEP ARE MARKED 8 X 1.75.
THE DIMENSIONS OF THE TRAILER ARE 36 INCHES LONG X 17 INCHES WIDE X 13 1/2 INCHES TALL. THE TIRES ARE MARKED 6 X 1.50.
THE BACK GATE SLIDES UP AND OUT. THERE IS SOME TOUCH UP PAINT ON THE BACK GATE AND WHERE IT SLIDES IN.”
I don’t see the trailers too often.
“Up for auction is this Vintage Tonka Air Lines Jeep Trailers & Cargo. These are all in nice played with condition. They have a few scuffs and scratches but is over all in nice condition. These are all original except for the barrels have been added. This is a neat old toy a great addition to any collection! Please look at pictures closely! “The top picture with the caption underneath “MOUNTAINS IN COLORADO….” would have been taken on the east side of the Garden Of The Gods in Colorado Springs. The shot is looking west. Appears it could have been made from the present site of the Garden Of The Gods Visitor and Nature Center. See this Google Map link: http://goo.gl/maps/alpDj
The area to the west and north of the Garden Of The Gods is where the devastating Waldo Canyon wildfire swept into Colorado Springs last summer.
The Garden Of The Gods is a spectacular sight. Hiking is allowed, but no jeeping.

Buz writes, “Here is a photo from White Owl Parts Co. which started out as a Willys Dealership after the war. It’s still there and if you look carefully over their shelves of parts you can still find NOS Willys parts. It’s located in Kinston, NC. They are the nicest people in the world, might be worth a visit if you ever get to this part of the country. The original photo is still on the wall in their office.”
