Old Jeep Labeled Matchbook on eBay

This is unusual.

“Here is a very unique matchbook with JEEP on the front….with the exception of some, dare I say idiot, putting a sticker on the front, this matchbox is in GOOD condition overall…..on the binding edge of the box it says: Mario da Silva Cravo S/A, Salvador-Bahia……on the back side there are some embossed words also that say: Couro Genuinem, Ernesto Rothschild, S. Paulo, Pat. Reg…measures 2 1/4 x 1 1/2 inches and is about 1/2 inch thick……pretty neat!”

Wanted: Full Floater Parts or an Axle

• CATEGORIES: wanted This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Greg wants to add full floater hubs to his rig, but needs a couple items.

He writes, “Looking for a floater kit or pieces to make my rear D44 CJ axle a floater for flat towing. I’m using Dualmatic locking hubs up front, and have two additional spare sets I’ll use to build the back hubs. Primarily just need the axles if anyone may have a spare set. Or perhaps someone has a long one I can cut down, and respline for the long side, then I’ll use my long side to cut for the short one.”

1952 Navy M-38A1 Moultrie, GA **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: M-38A1 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE  **SOLD** on eBay for $6500.

This has a Navy Depot Maintenance data plate.

“Awsome true us navy jeep. I have never seen a navy jeep for sale anywhere. The navy did not have many , so that makes them very rare. Has been in my neighborhood for years and i never knew it. The owner saw that i restored jeeps and asked if i wanted to finish this one. It was on the family farm for years and the motor went out. They pulled the motor and had it built at knights engine rebuil;ders. { i have the paper work} the motor was never put back into the jeep. They lost interest and it just sat in the back of the work shop.

I mostly bought the jeep for the motor, but after i got it home i saw how good condition the body was in. Very little rust. It has all the original floor pans and back tub.the underside is one of the best i have ever seen.no rust at all on the frame or running gear. Then i saw that it was issued to the dept of the navy. Holy cow i have never even seen one of these.

I then decided to restore the jeep. It went to the sand blast shop for a complete rotisserie sand blast. All paint, dirt, grease ,were removed back to the bare metal. [see pictures] it was primered with rustolium gray primer. 1 – 1/2 gallons. I then did some body work but as you can see in the pictures i keep it like it looked when in service. I left a lot of the weld marks and dents. This is not a new tub but it is the original tub. You can see the front fenders have the normal damage from off road use. The fact that it is the original tub makes it the real thing. Jeeps that have had the tubs replaced are then kit cars and lose collector value.

Then the jeep was sprayed with rustolium battle ship gray enamal. Another 1- 1/2 gallons top to bottom. It now has more paint on it than when it was new. We installed the motor with a new clutch and bearing. New plugs ,points, new battery 12 volt . As expected being a new motor it started right up. It runs like new because it is. . We replaced the master cylinder with a new one. The brakes work but not the best. I did not pull the brake drums and have them turned or new pads. I recomend you do this. It drives and shifts fine, high and low work.

1944 GPW Sugar Hill, NH eBay

• CATEGORIES: GPW (Ford MB) • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

The seller notes this was purchased a few days ago for over $10,000. The grill and bumper aren’t original, but the rest looks solid. The paint on the dash appears a little rough.

“serial #176801 This Jeep was manufactured in by Ford February of 1944 using the Willy’s-Overland design. The vehicle has been nicely restored and wears fresh paint including “USMC / 58282” . The engine runs strong and the electrical system has been converted to 12 volt. The frame shows no evidence of being welded and seems very sound. The headlights along with the fuel, speed, amp and temperature gauges all function properly. The tires are all excellent and the vehicle comes with a spare tire, gas can, GI ammo crate, shovel and axe. It is currently registered as an antique vehicle in the state of Maine. This true classic represents one of the very first Jeeps made in the first three years of production and before a civilian version was even developed. The ultimate addition to your WWII military collection!

I bought this jeep SIGHT UNSEEN yesterday for over $10,000.00 at a gun auction in NH. I know nothing about jeeps. The description aboves comes from the auction catolog as does the pictures. Below is the auction link-PLEASE CHECK IT OUT FOR MORE PICTURES!

1946? Flattie Carmichael, CA **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: GPW (Ford MB), MB This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.

This is a mix of military and custom parts.

“Up for your consideration, is a very nice 1946 Military Jeep. It has a 327 Chevy engine with a 2 speed power glide automatic transmission. It has brand new Goodyear Wrangler LT 255/70 R 16, load range C, mud and snow tires, brand new rims, Warn Hubs, and a new Edelbrock carburetor. It is equipped with a tow bar and a rear tire mount. The hood is fiberglass. There is no rust-out on the body, and all the floor panels are very straight. It has an electric fuel pump and an 18.7 gallon gas tank sitting where the back seat would be, and a roll bar. It needs to have some electrical finished, i.e.; headlights, missing front turn signals, and windshield wiper. It also needs a sending unit installed in the gas tank. Three of the five gauges are also new. It is a very nice driver with a powerful engine. I bought the Jeep with intentions of finishing it off, but due to a crippling degenerative back condition, and a pending second back surgery, I am forced to sell it. I have tried to describe the Jeep to the best of my ability.”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3000.

(08/27/2012) This doesn’t have a title. It looks like it has some life left.

“This is a 1946-47 Willys CJ-2A Jeep set up for use as a hunting jeep. This jeep runs great with low hours on an older engine rebuild. The body is not a candidate for restoration but it is sound. Custom front and rear bumpers with an extended platform and tow bar on the front bumper. The bed has been completely replaced with steel plate and a custom tailgate that folds out into a bed extension for additional carrying capacity. Engine has been converted to 12V with an alternator. New water pump, new electric backup fuel pump, rebuilt carburator and new battery. Good brakes with new wheel cylinders and master cylinder. Freshly rebuilt transmission and transfer case. Excellent oversize off-road tires. Newly upholstered seats. This jeep is ready to load up and go hunting. I also have a custom built hunting tower that fits on the jeep. It needs some work but I will throw it in if you want it. No title. Bill of Sale only. I have owned the jeep for almost 30 years and to my knowledge it has never been licensed.”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $600

“Up for your consideration is a 1951 Willys M38 Army Jeep (date of delivery Aug-1951) that would make a great project or starter Jeep. Has an original M38 motor 4 cyl in it that starts and runs. Drives and goes in and out of 4×4 and through all the gears. She’s going to need a lot of TLC as she was neglected in the past. Floor pans are shot as is most of the body, but I’ve seen guys restore something a thousand times worse. Brake lines are mia, but I’ve pulled all the hubs and the wheel cylinders, pads and such look useable. Has a working set of Dualmatic locking hubs on the front. I have a clear VA title in my name (Not registered or tagged). Not wanting to part it out as of yet, but depending on replies, it’s always a possibility. Delivery available for free (withing 50 miles) or we can negotiate a price for further; cash up front. Asking $600 cash obo.”

1963 CJ-3B Staunton, VA **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-3B • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2250

(03/11/2012) “For sale: 1963 CJ3b
This CJ is among the last of the Willys branded ever made. There has been 3 owners in its lifetime. The Jeep was redone in the early 80s by the second owner. I got this Jeep 6 years ago.
This is a project.
I am roughly 60-70% done with it. I rebuilt the engine, transmission, transfer case, both differentials, upgraded the brakes (everything new), painted the frame with rust inhibiting paint, and a few other thing here and there.

What need to be done to finish this project is to finish installing some of the drive-line components, steering parts would need to be replaced ($15 for a tie rod end), cooling system installed, some bodywork, and the electrical system.

The body is rough, however replacement bodies are available. the hardtop is solid and all glass is in good shape.

I have almost everything one would need to finish this project, and all will go with.

This CJ is a rare find. It would be a perfect project for someone just getting into working on cars and trucks as a hobby, or someone who would lake to make it into an off road toy (as I was doing) This Jeep has a clear title and would be easy to get it back on the road. Parts new and used for these Jeeps are readily available.”

Alternative Energy for German Cars during WWII

• CATEGORIES: Features, Magazine This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

After reading the Blitz Buggy article last night, I read through the remainder of the 1943 Liberty Magazine.  I found one of the articles very interesting, though it has nothing to do with jeeps.

Called “Motoring in Germany”, the article describes how gas rationing led to the conversion of automobiles into “gazogenes”, or vehicles powered by wood, gas, charcoal, and coke-burning.  The cars either towed trailers or had washing-machine sized attachments added to the back. Here’s the page below.
