1951 Wagon California **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: News This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $12,500

“Four-wheel drive Willys Jeep station wagon. It has a 1975 Buick V-6 odd fire engine (approximately 65k miles), a SM465 manual transmission, Dana 18 transfer case, Dana 30 with Power-lock front axles, and a Dana 44 with locker in the rear (axles are 4.10s). The drive train is in good working condition. It is suitable as a daily driver, and for longer trips. It’s a great camping vehicle.

12-volt system with upgraded headlights. It has a custom suspension, with Firestone inflatable air springs, and a towing receiver. All other parts are original, including the seats (all reupholstered), gauges, and wood floor strips. It is a California vehicle, with some rust and dents. The outside has been repainted once. Inside is all original paint. It would make a great project vehicle. Receipts for work done are available.”

1959 CJ-5 @ Sellajeep.com $1700

• CATEGORIES: CJ5 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This has some rust issues.

“I bought this Jeep to use as my hunting camp vehicle and as a restoration project for me and my son to complete over the summer. My work schedule has changed to 6 days a week, so this vehicle is exactly like it was the day I bought it. This Jeep appears to have the original engine and running gear. I am not an expert on these vehicles by any means, just trying to accurately state what I know about this Jeep.

The transmission is a Hi/Lo range with 3 forward gears and 1 reverse. It has a 4WD shifter and locking front hubs to engage the 4WD system. Overall, the Jeep is about 90% original from what I can tell. There are mud tires on the Jeep now, spare is the original military type tire (very worn). The alternator bracket needs to be aligned to the drive belt (it has obviously been replaced) and the Jeep needs brake lines. There are no brake lines on the Jeep at this time.

Odometer shows 21,000 miles, no way to verify if this is accurate or not. There is another front grill included, military spare tire and wheel, spare tire mount (goes on rear of passenger side), and the original heater assembly. The front bumper looks like it had a winch on it at one time, no winch on it when I bought it. It has a passenger seat that pitches forward to allow access to the rear and to a floor storage area under the passenger seat. There is no rear seat. The tailgate is really rusted and deteriorated on the top edge, would need to be replaced. There is no access hatch door for the rear, so the vehicle is open in the rear above the tailgate. Passenger side door is missing the plexiglass window, driver’s door is missing the door handle.”

Ypsilanti Machine and Tool Company Hand Crank Heater

• CATEGORIES: Features • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: Since this model was on ebay, I contacted the museum’s curator to see if the museum was interested. The curator let me know they already had an original (brand new) version of this heater along with the original box at the Ypsilanti Museum.

Josh spotted this ebay ad for an unusual hand crank heater.  It is similar to the Stewart Warner Hand Crank Heater, but made by the Ypsilanti Machine and Tool Company.  That is the same company that Preston Tucker owned.

“UP FOR AUCTION IS THIS HAND CRANK MILITARY HEATER.. I DONT KNOW FOR SURE BUT THIS MAY BE A STEWART AND WARNER HEATER.THIS MUST HAVE BEEN USED BY THE US AIR FORCE BECAUSE THE TAG ON IT SAYS PROPERTY OF U.S.A.F. I’AM NOT SURE WHAT THIS IS USED FOR..I’VE HEARD MANY DIFFERENT USES FOR IT I JUST CANT SAY FOR SURE WHAT IT WAS USED FOR. IT IS A HAND CRANK HEATER.. THE CRANK STILL CRANKS OVER AND THE GAS TANK HAS NO REAL RUST AND TANK LOOKS ALMOST NEW INSIDE.. I TRIED TO TAKE A PICTURE OF INSIDE OF THE TANK FOR YOU TO SEE. IT DOES BLOW AIR OUT WHEN YOU WIND THE HANDLE. I HAVENT EVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS.. I DON’T KNOW IF ITS WWI OR WWII OR LATER..IM SURE SOMEONE ON HERE WILL SEE AND KNOW WHAT IT WAS USED FOR.”

My New (Old) Hand Slicer

• CATEGORIES: Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

(This has nothing to do with jeeps, but everything to do with food)

Last fall when Ann and I were visiting with Bob and Mindy in Ohio Bob happened to pull out a hand slicer he used to slice meat.  I thought it was really cool and told him so.  A couple months ago he was at an auction, spotted one, and called me to ask if he should bid on it.  Sure I said.  He got a good price on it and shipped it out west to me. I finally got a chance to boil, clean and reassemble it.

The best thing is that it is all steel and tough and can be taken apart and cleaned; almost no plastic!  It’s called a General 100 Meat Slicer.  I still need some two more footings, but it works great.  Pretty good for a 45 year-old machine.  Even cooler is that someone inscribed their name and a date — June of 1967.  Thanks again Bob!

Here’s is are a variety of them on Etsy for sale.  Here are others on eBay.  Below is a picture of mine with some freshly sliced ham.

Fabulous deal!  This will go quick. It even runs!  I want it!

“1946 Willy’s CJ2A Jeep. The good – I brought this up from Colorado so it is not a complete rust bucket , has been converted to 12 volt, runs and drives enough to be loaded on a trailer. The Bad – Brakes are dried up and will need rebuilt, Flywheel ring needs replaced. This jeep sat in a field for 15 years, I changed the oil, lubed the cylinders and primed with fresh gas and it fired right up. Sounds real smooth once you get past the old gas. I have driven it around the yard to move it , but never no distance due to No Brakes. Great for Parts or to Fix up.  Asking 700.00 obo will provide bill of sale or can assist with title work.”

1975 DJ-5D Arvada, Co **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: DJ-5 & DJ-6 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1200.

“With some hesitation I am forced to sell this 1975 Mail Jeep (DJ-5D). It is a great little Jeep that needs a new home because I dont have the space to store it and my friend cannot keep it in his garage anymore 🙂 as his 65′ Mustang is due to come back from a 2 year restoration project soon…

Here is a run down of some details (mostly complete) about this Postal Jeep:

– Inline 6 cylinder (232 cu in engine) that runs great and has a bunch of newer parts. The odometer says just over 56,000 miles….I don’t know for sure but I think it is total original miles. There is a chance the odometer has rolled over as it only has 5 digits (XX,XXX) but its doubtful. I’ve probably put only 500 or so miles on it since I bought it a few years ago and it has been used for close proximity driving (never really taken on the highway). Its an automatic and the throttle is very responsive and has a good amount of pickup and go, but the brakes currently need a little work….more on that below.

– It has a 727 Torque Flight Transmission (automatic) and this tranny is very sought after by many off roading and hot rod enthusiast alike because of the strength and adaptability to multiple engines and transfer cases. If you research Monster Trucks (like Grave Digger) most of them are running a 727 TF because they can be built to withstand well over 1000 hp.

– This Jeep has good glass all the way around. No chips or cracks in the windshield or any glass for that matter – it all in great shape. Both slider doors open (with a little muscle) and the rear swing door works great and closes securely. The rear swing door has the signature “Jeep” molded into the middle of it which is rare for a Postal Jeep from what I was told.

– There is some minor surface rust that has been semi-sanded and all the problem areas have been sprayed with a white primer antirust base coat.

– The worst rust is found on the floor boards but this sale includes a slew of new parts including 2 new pre-molded metal floor boards (1 left and 1 right). The back cargo area does not have any rust.

– There is a softball size hole in the front driver (typically passenger side) corner panel that someone cut out to get to the master cylinder which needs to be replaced and just like the new floor boards, a new master cylinder is another new part that is included in the sale but has not yet been swapped out.

– This Jeep has 4 matching tires that are like new and have a ton of tread left. A full size spare is also included.

– The Rear axle is a narrow track Dana 44. This axle does not leak and the fluid was recently checked. Very stout axle. These Mail Jeeps were rear wheel drive only so it’s not a 4×4 and the front axle (or lack thereof) is just an axle housing – no shafts, no pumpkin and no transfer case behind the trans.

– Paint is in ok shape and depending on what you want to do with the vehicle, it could go for a new paint job at some point, but it isn’t a necessity.

– Overall this Jeep is a pretty neat little unique vehicle that runs good and catches a lot of attention. I just dont have time (and now the space) to keep working on it and restoring it. It needs some things done, mainly the brakes, but most (or all) of the parts needed are included in the sale.

Also, just FYI if you research the 1975 Postal Jeep (DJ-5D) this is a specific year that has a ton of parts that are beefier than other years and offer a great base for a restoration Mail Jeep project, or a unique 4×4 Right Hand Drive Jeep project as the DJ model is a sister to the CJ 5 models. It would pain my heart a little, but this Jeep could also be a $$$ maker if you have the time to strip it down and part it out.

– I have a clean title for the vehicle and 2 keys that operate both the ignition and all the door locks.

Please let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to see the Jeep in person. At this point, the brakes are not good enough to drive home as the e-brake is currently the only working brake 🙂 – so it would have to be trailered away. I have a flat bed trailer and would be willing to move it for the right deal.

I am not interested in trading for another vehicle so dont ask me about that, but I will consider trading or partial trades for tools, guns, specific wheel and or tire sets, old baseball cards (50’s & 60’s era). specific XJ (Cherokee) or J10/J20 Jeep truck parts, large vertical air compressor, large tool chest, other mechanic/garage items, or hunting items.”

Hans Completed GPW

• CATEGORIES: Builds This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  I posted this back in 2010 prior to Hans completing the project.  Well, his GPW is complete and looks great.  Unfortunately, we couldn’t locate any more history about this jeep (or at least I didn’t find any).  Thanks to Roberto for updating me on this.

Sometime last year Hans purchased 1944 GPW 236146 from Menno Keizer, an auto/jeep dealer in the Netherlands.  As part of the restoration process, Hans has been trying to track down the US owner of the Jeep.  We know the title from the US points to an owner by the name of Tom Mitchell (may be deceased) and/or Susan (mitchell?) in Guntersville, Al.  If you for some reason recognize this jeep or know anyone from Guntersville, please let us know.

You can view many pictures of the rebuild at his website or

Lifting a Willys MA at the Presidio

From the San Francisco Library Archives comes this picture of soldiers lifting a Willys MA (thanks Josh!).

Here’s the text that accompanies the archive: “Dwarfed by the sprawling expanse of the Golden Gate Bridge in the background and the lifting power of a few soldiers, two of the new jeeps to be used for military traffic duty are shown at Crissy Field. Notice, at right, how the troops don’t seem to be straining hard as they raise the car. Handles for lifting the little war machines can be seen on the jeep at left. Three dozen of the vehicles were issued to the 524th Military Police Battalion.”
