UPDATE:  Rudolf sent some additional pics of this rig. Steve gives a good analysis within the comments section.

Rudolf forwarded me this unusual CJ-?A/MB wagon.  Rudolf reports that this is titled a 1944 and was used for public transit in Bali.  Given the full floating rear end, the rearend might have been from a MB.  It reminded me of another vehicle with a similar wood rear end that is located in France  (see the red image below).

The engine runs!  Looks like it might be a good parts jeep.

“1969 Jeep CJ-5, Dauntless V-6. The motor runs, beyond that I cant say anything such as how strong it is. The Gas tank is not connected, so it only fires up from the fuel line connected to a gas can.

Frame is straight, engine is good.

For $500.00 what do you get?

a vintage 1969 Willys CJ-5 ready for a restore or a rebuild to a crawler. A Dauntless V-6 engine that probably needs some work, but not much. Everything else like tranny, transfer case, hubs etc.. Its a rolling vehicle.

The rims, they can be “borrowed” to get it transported, but I want the wheels and rims back. The seats. The seats in the pic are not included, nor are the mounting frames, however, I have some 65’ish seat frames/seats that will go with it.”

(11/14/2010) “I have for sale a 1950 Willys CJ-3A in close to original condition. Sold with clear Oregon Title. This vehicle was in use by the Butte County Mosquito Abatement department in California since the mid-fifties. The last entry on the maintenance record shows 70,302 in 2005 but when I got it the speedometer head was frozen so Im not sure of the exact mileage. Since I have owned it I have put an additional 1,200 miles on a new speedometer. It always gets lots of attention and questions/comments from vintage Jeep admirers. The engine was replaced at 54,970 in June of 1972 with a CJ-3A engine #3J20172. The vehicle still retains the original 6-volt electrical system. Since I have owned it I have replaced the clutch, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, clutch linkage, fuel pump, fuel tank, fuel lines, and vacuum lines. The transmission and transfer assemblies have both been rebuilt along with the carburetor. I have replaced the center tie rod end assembly and rebuilt the drag link with new parts. I have installed new upholstery for the seats and backs along with new seat pans and seat belts. The canvas top and hardware will not be included as they belong to another project I have started. There are two areas where rust needs to be addressed. 1. The passenger side hat channel. 2. At the rear of the drivers floor area behind the fuel tank. I have replaced the tailgate and hood with new ones that have the Willys stamped logos. I’ve tried to be as complete in my description of this vehicle as I can and can honestly say it is a dependable vehicle. Please feel free to call if you would like to inspect this great little rig. Lawrence’s 1952 M-38A1 Union Mills, NC

Lawrence has decided to sell his hinged grille 1952 M-38A1.  I’ve gotten to know Lawrence over the past few weeks and I feel comfortable saying that this M-38A1 should be in excellent mechanical shape. You might remember Lawrence’s other jeeps, which I featured here.

As an ex-army motor pool and ex jeep dealer mechanic, Lawrence knows his way around jeeps very well.  He’s also a practical guy and as such, has replaced the normal gearing in his jeep with more road friendly 4:27 gears along with an overdrive.  The beachwood canvas top and seats are pretty new. He switched the stock carb for a holley, as he prefers that carb.  He’s replaced the standard bellcrank with a custom version that he invented which pivots on tapered bearings (if you want one, just let me know); along with the bell crank, he improved the stock steering so that the jeep responds well on the road. This has been converted to 12 volt, though it came with an unusual 24 volt heater which Lawrence believes was installed by the army (and in the process they removed the battery box).

If you are looking for a M-38A1 that can pass for stock, but can also be a dependable road jeep, you might consider calling Lawrence at 828-287-5275.  He was thinking of a price in the $7k neighborhood.

“1976 and 1973 Scout for sale

Both have good 345’s. One has a 3-speed, the other has an automatic. Both have dana 44’s. Both are projects but were on the road several years ago. Both have removable hard tops and clear titles. Asking $1000 each or will sell together for $1800.

1949 and 1959 Willys overlander wagons

The 1949 has a good 292 v8 with a t-98 four speed transmission with a granny low gear. It comes with a dana 18 transfer case. Has a dana 25 axle up front with a dana 44 in the rear. Most of the hard work has been done, but there are things that need finishing. It has a lot of parts included, such as a power steering assembly, power brake set up, after market wheels, and much more. It has an extremely soild body with hardly any rust. Most of the orginal paint has been stripped down to start the body work. Asking $1400

The 1959 comes with a lot of new replacement parts from willys of America. It has no engine. But does have a t90 transmission, dana 18 transfer case, dana 25 axle up front, and a dana 44 in the rear. It is taken completely apart, but all of the body parts are included with the sale. Asking $700

I have way to many projects and need the room, that’s why they are all for sale. Will sell both wagons together for $1800. Will sell everything together as a package, 2 scouts and 2 willys wagons, for $3200.

These would be great rock crawler, off road, or mud trucks. Everything you will need is there. My plans were to use the scout running gear in the Willys wagons, but I have to many other projects going on. All prices are negotiable.”

It runs and drives well. Was originally 6 volt system.Somewhere in its life someone converted to 12volt system. Everything works but, I would probably replace the wiring harness because it is the original harness and is old. The frame is good, getting thin by rear spring shackles,but not hard to repair.( hey, it is a 56 yr old frame,how long does a frame last on a Toyota today…?) The body is original as far as I can tell. Has been patched up, needs a little more to be inspectable for the road.Top, is all there but,as you can see in pictures is coming apart at the seams. Very easy to restore, not much that is not available from various parts vendors to restore one of these old Jeeps.
