About eWillys
Welcome to eWillys.com, a website for vintage jeep enthusiasts. I update this website nearly every day with jeep deals, jeep history, interesting reader projects, jeep related info, and more.
These quick searches can help you find things on eBay. People list in the wrong categories all the time, so don't be surprised to see brochures in the parts area for example.
The links to posts below show jeeps grouped by models, condition, and other ways. Some of these jeeps are for sale and others have been sold. If you are unsure whether a vehicle is still for sale or not, email me at d [at] ewillys.com for more info.
Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. So, tread carefully when purchasing a "project". If you have any concerns about buying a vintage jeep, or run across a scam, feel free to contact me for help, comments or concerns .
(06/10/09) I’m unfamiliar with the types of 4×4 or jeep racing in Montana.
“RACE READY!– 1953 willys CJ5 race jeep, powered by Chevy small block stroked to 388, approx. 450 hp, turbo 400 tranny, buckshot mudders on front, Super Swampers on back, 8 point roll cage, 2 seats w/covers and 5 point safety harnesses, races in sportsman class, mud bogs, sand drags, obstacle, tuff trucks, this jeep has won countless races and its ready to go! $6000 OBO”
While it’s not a jeep in form, it certainly captures the spirit of a jeep in function. Two alternators, three batteries, and a host of features make this an unusual vehicle. The most recent cheap jeep was launched in 1974 for the purpose of desert and mountain travel, not unlike the way original mountain bikers back in 1976 utilized old tough schwinn bikes to tackle the mountains. It’s singular purpose –the next ghost town or bust — was a cheap, but dependable vehicle capable of on road and off road travel for thousands of miles over the period of a week. This vehicle is still used and images and video from 2009 can be found on the website along with links to all the places these intrepid adventurers have visited over the past years (scroll to the bottom of the homepage). View the video below to learn a little bit about the unusual features of this vehicle (or go to their video page).
Steve Ricketts writes on the westernghosts.com website, In 1974, I acquired a 1966 Pontiac convertible from another customer. This time the price was $75.00. Like the Chrysler Imperial, the Pontiac needed a lot of work. After extensive engine repair and a transmission rebuild and modification, it was able to be driven to my house where the first Cheap Jeep (Chrysler Imperial) was stored. The transformation from old cheap jeep to new cheap jeep began. The finished product is what you see today.
It is highly modified, and works better for our purposes than anything we could buy today. It is easy to repair on the road, and parts are readily available. It carries more than “regular” jeeps and is a lot cheaper to replace should it become necessary to abandon. I would really hate to take a $30,000+, four wheel drive (Blazer/Bronco, etc.) on one of these trips. At the very least, the paint and body would be badly damaged. It would also be next to impossible to repair in the field, and a very real possibility exists that I would someday have to abandon it. After all these years of use and modification, I still have less than $800.00 invested in the Cheap Jeep…and that includes the original purchase price.”

This thing actually runs. It sounds like this might be a good deal. Plus, the seller needs to sell it quickly!!
“Unfortunatly, I have run into some finacial issues and am not able to do what I would like with this Jeep. I pulled it out of a barn on one of our farms after it had sat for probably 20 years; Replaced the fuel lines, put in new plugs, and flushed the tank FIRED RIGHT UP! It has the original engine in it not sure what exactly it is and i believe the axles are dana 44’s? The tires all hold air and has newer black wall wheels. There is no title for it willing to write a bill of sale but it is being sold as an “Off road Vehicle”. It does not have any seats and needs a new steering wheel as well as a battery but have one that I can throw in there to show you how well it runs. The Brakes will need a service aswell. The 4 wheel drive works very well and all gears work aswell. I am looking to get rid of this ASAP! So all offers are open for discussion. Please call or email me with any other questions that I can answer! (971)226-9489 Dan.Dyrdahl@vzw.blackberry.net.”
It appears pretty stock, including sporting the 6 volt system still.
“Nice little classic jeep. Lots of fun! Runs good. Fairly original..just a few after factory changes. Still has 6 volt system. Need to sell to pay medical bill.”
A nice roll cage, a brand new winch, and a clean look body make this appear to be a good deal.
“i am selling a 57 jeep cj 5, body and frame are very solid. runs perfect, brand new winch hardly used. has lots of new parts. brand new tires, new springs. new carb. any questions call 998-4984.”
It was stretched fairly nicely in the back compared with the patch between the hood and grille in the front.
“This custom 58 Willy is powered by 350 4BBL Chevy Motors, Turbo 400 automatic transmission, Chevy 1/2 ton front and rear axles, rancho schocks custom made leaf springs, new break system, new steering system, heavy duty full cage roll bar, Mickey Thompson 35×12.5 tires. Plus a box of new stuff that is ready to be installed. $10,000 or OBO!! This is truly a one of a kind!! A must see!!! ”
It’s got a new winch. The tires look good. It also has a big foot pedal. Do you need any more than that? I’m not sure why it has lights in a 2 pics and not in the other two pics.
“It is primarily for off-road use only. 6-cylinder engine; it runs but smokes. No title. It has a new Warn 8000lb. wench mounted on front. $1500.”
There have been a few mods, including some usual changes involving the tail lights. It appears the tailgate has been filled in?

(02/11/09) I’m not sure what a Canadian transfercase is?

Also has 2 gas tanks for going out in the hills and an old ragtop. Runs, and current on tags. Please call David @ (541) 409-2805 . ( 8am-8pm PST).”
Here’s a running VEC for only $1600. The paint is a bit rough, but no obvious rust.
“1946 CJ2A Runs good, Good tires,Clear title, 4cyl flathead engine. Email or call Tod 970-406-2033. Located in Silverthorne about 70 miles west of Denver on I70”
UPDATE:The website’s online purchases and inventory is offline. It appears they are gearing up to allow users to use Major Credit Cards rather than just paypal. Though Stone Tire calls the tires Ugly Dog, I suspect these tires are the same ones made for the Import/Export Tire Company by Comptred and called V-Grips. It appears Import/Export also sells the other two tires as well and other offroad retreads.
UPDATE (06/07/09): I sent the company an email, asking if they could potentially make a desert dog for racing and sending them some examples. I heard nothing back from my June 7th email.
Gerald sent some really sad pics to me with an idea … let’s create a “Last Ride” category. We’ve all seen one or more of these jeeps: Something so rusty, so damaged, so modified, so mortifying that the grass is holding it up.
So, I’ll put up two posts tonight (courtesy of Gerald). If you have some pics, see some pics, or save some pics, send them my direction and we’ll add them to.
Gerald writes, We bought this about 10 years ago and finally decided to pull it from the weeds. We needed the rear axle. The frame collapsed as I stood in the rotten drivers compartment to steer the wheels while being pulled by the tractor. It was truely it’s last ride. We will pick it over and save some stuff. Check out the shackle lift.
Gerald writes, Here is a 1970’s Canadian version of a M715. These fell of a flatbed truck and sat for years until I got them. They were a waste of time, but could not resist.
“Runs very well. ALL original. 100 miles on Rebuilt original engine, radiator.Original starter re-built. Has PTO/winch with 100 feet 3/8ths cable. Has tow hitch with 2″ball socket.”
“I have 2 Jeeps for sale.. The red one won’t turn over but is complete but no title..The green one has a clear title and is in excellent condition and needs a windshield but I pulled the engine to replace the rear main seal and it still needs the seal and gasket set installed and it would be ready to go.Both jeeps and all the parts for $1850.”
This is a project, but sounds like a good foundation for a road/trail jeep. it includes an over drive an Dana 30 with an ARB Locker.
