1946_cj2a_tempeNo doubt the price will drop, but it’s a good looking jeep.

“This Jeep is a CJ-2A Jeep Willy, made after WWII, the CJ stands for civilian jeep and was based on the ones used in WWII. This Jeep was fully restored by its previous owner, a former military mechanic who spent a lot of time restoring this vehicle and making it run amazing. After his death his wife sold it to us because we were friends and her kids didn’t want it. Runs amazingly, fully restored and hasn’t been driven off road since restoration, no scratches dings or even tears in the seat cushions, an instant parade, car show or whatever vehicle, this was the original ATV and can go anywhere you want it to, asking $18,000 for it, reasonable offers will of course be considered, email me for more info, pricing, pics or whatever. 1955 Wagon Project Yakima, Wa **Status Unknown**

• CATEGORIES: Willys Wagons This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

1955_panelvvan_yakimaUPDATE: **Status Unknown** Was $9000.

Here’s an interesting project in which a good chunk of money has already been invested.  I don’t know if the seller will get his money our or not.  The seller mentions this is a rare wagon model.  I’m unsure whether this is true or not.

“Start off with a little history of this rare Jeep Willy’s Panel Wagon. This is a windowless panel wagon with rear delivery doors (sometimes called ambulance doors) that was a special order forest service vechiles. Some of the rarest vehicles to come by now a days. It was once used for a top fuel car in Seattle some years ago About the only thing that’s fit’s the original jeep is the body. The rest is a ground up restoration converting it back to a 4 x 4 with a ton of labor and cash put into it.”

It runs.  It even stops now.

“I bought this Jeep twenty years ago and rebuilt the engine. Since then I have only used it to plow snow in the driveway. I recently replaced the brake wheel cylinders and two brake lines to get the brakes to work. I used it 20 years without brakes; I never went fast enough that I couldn’t stop by lowering the snow blade. The lights don’t work; I never needed them. I never had it registered on the road. There is still a license plate on it from 1976. I imagine that was the last time it was registered”

My Build — Engine and Charging System Connections

• CATEGORIES: Biscuit This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE 2: I’ve made a major adjustment to my basic wiring schematic.  This fixed my alternator issues and got my volt meter working correctly.

Major Changes:

  1. I corrected how I wired my Ford Starter Relay (aka Remote Starter Solenoid).  Basically, when the starter button is pushed, it ‘closes’ the connection in the Relay, which ignites the left side of the relay, in turn causing the starter to start the engine.
  2. While my schematic was actually correct, I had mis-wired my Delco 10si alternator because the wiring that came with my wiring harness caused me to mix up the sensing wiring and the field wire.  In my case, the sensing wiring is on the left and wired to the volt meter and the field wire plugs into the right and wired to the battery.
  3. I hadn’t added a power wire to the volt meter side.  I made sure the power wire was only powered up if the power switch was on, to reduce the chances of the batter getting drained.

My Build: The Engine’s Running

• CATEGORIES: Biscuit This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Below is a video that documents the third start of the engine. It’s pretty brief, but I didn’t want to do much more than idle it at that time.

The main issue with getting the engine to work was that I simply had the distributor wires  in the wrong places .. i was off by 180 degrees.  Once I fixed that, it started immediately!  Frankly, I was surprised when it started.  I only swapped the wiring because I saw someone else on the web with a HEI distributor with the wires opposite of what I had done.  Since I was out of ideas, I figured swapping wouldn’t hurt anything and, VIOLA .. it started instantly!

Once I had it started, I had to go back through and fix some of the mistakes in the wiring I had made, including discovering and fixing a key wire that ran underneath the jeep — that was a pain!

Now, most everything works.  One key issue is that the alternator isn’t working.  But, I think I should have that problem solved by tomorrow.

I am guessing the year of this jeep based on the serial number and the CJ-2A website production serial numbers.  This jeep includes a Monroe Lift.

“Nice CJ2A Willys Agri-jeep with a Monroe lift. starts and runs good. Monroe lift has been off of the jeep since the mid 1970s. The previous owner used it to run a bush-hog cut fields. Fiberglass Flatfender Body Clovis, Ca $200

• CATEGORIES: Body Parts This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  I received some pics from the seller.  The holes aren’t all that bad (I’ve dealt with worse), but the right rear wheel well has seen some stress.  I’d have to look at that much more closely. I believe the body is the same as my old jeep, which was a light duty body.  The good news, the area over the transmission looks like it’s hardly been touched.  This is usually cut up.

The windshield is certainly unusual.

Brian heads to the Mounds ORV Park

• CATEGORIES: Reader Stories This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

brians_cj7_orvpark

Brian took a break from his CJ-3B and ran over to the Mounds ORV Park with his niece and nephew. In the pic they are showing off their ‘guns’ and their dirty jeep.

Brian writes, “Mathew came out from Seattle and was instrumental in helping me replace a blown 300 transfer case to get it ready to play.

We got to the Mounds ORV park around 11:00 am. located just north of Flint Michigan.  This was my first time in the park. I am not really a big fan of mud and water and was happy that it hadn’t rained for a week or two. The park was surprisingly empty, given it was a Friday.  There were only 3 vehicles in the park and about 15 motorcycles. We stayed in the park for 5-6 hours and played. It was great fun for the kids.

There were plenty of places to explore in the mud and, yes, I did get stuck 2 times in mud holes, using my winch to free myself. I quickly became friends with Ron and his family, while my winch line got to meet his late model Wrangler with open rear ends. I quickly discovered this really was not a place to be by yourself without lockers and a winch.

I found four ways to play: 1) Abundant standard mud hole’s, 2) A five acre treed area with winding tight trials called “Pines”, 3) A water hole in the scramble area 1 and, 4) a man-made rock crawl area.

Scramble area 1 is sand,  something like Kitty litter, so I tested the water by running the sides then ran the short way through the middle. Not thinking it was deep and only 50 feet long at the most, I decided to hit it the long way. At the 3/4 point my left tire dropped in a hole and the top of the fender disappeared.  My Niece McKenna, sitting in the front seat, said “there is water coming in”. Looking down it was only four inches of water; Looking up we had slowed to a crawl, wet, and laughingly chewing our way through the mud hole, sounding like an old Chris Craft.

Keeping my foot in it,  Mathew, who was sitting  in the back ,was thinking he was not going to get wet. However, to his surprise, the last five feet ascended out of the hole quite sharply, throwing the water to the back of the jeep and soaking Mathew’s butt. I don’t know how it got in the jeep but there was an inch of sand/kitty litter in the jeep. That hole was a lot of Fun!

The man-made rock crawls were about  300 yards that my 33’s navigated quite well. Mathew, being a newer licensed driver, was chomping at the bit, so I let him do some rock crawling and tight pines driving. He did quite good in both areas and shows a lot of potential as a Jeep driver. I was quite proud he learned to keep his foot off the gas. Below is a link to his claim to fame.

“This is an awsome early (less than 7% of the total war time production) Willys slat grill MB! It’s date of delivery is January 2nd, 1942 and the matching frame & dash data tag list it as serial number “108808” It’s has the body tub features peculiar to these early jeeps like the script “Willys”on the rear panel, square shaped fuel tank well, no glovebox on the passenger’s side dash, and dual hinge rear tool box lids. The fuel tank’s the correct “small mouth” and the windshield, seats, hood, grill, baffles…all of the body parts…are original correct slat grill components. It even has the correct “fluted” inner axle shafts that are always missing, the cast windshield hold down clamps, and the early “pancake” style air cleaner. This is a genuine early slat grill jeep!….”
