This April 1960 Jeep Service and Parks News bulletin is four pages. I thought the four-different propeller types used and serviced was an interesting tidbit. The updated knuckle setup for the DJ-3A wasn’t something I was aware of either.
September-October 1959 Jeep News
This “Extra” September-October Jeep News issue is twelve pages long. There’s a lot going on with this issue, so enjoy!
1995 Resin Model Jeep From China Framingham, MA **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $40.
Maybe some of you have seen this model type, but it’s not one I recognize. Apparently, it was manufactured in 1995, but it sure looks older.
“Army jeep made out of resin 1968 in China or 1942 army jeep do usually sell for $70 asking $ 40 or best offer.”
1984 CJ-8 Alaskan Postal Jeep Willow Park, TX BaT
Blaine shared this auction, which ends Saturday morning. Currently, the bid price is $7400.
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1984-jeep-cj-8-scrambler-7/
“This 1984 Jeep CJ-8 Scrambler is a right-hand-drive example that is said to have been previously utilized by the Alaskan Postal Service. The truck is finished in green over gray cloth upholstery, and it is powered by a replacement 258ci inline-six linked with a three-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Additional equipment includes 15″ black-finished steel wheels, power-assisted brakes, power steering, a body-color hardtop, a tow ball, a side-opening rear door, air conditioning, and a Jensen CD stereo. This CJ-8 is offered by the selling dealer at no reserve with the owner’s manual and a clean Texas title.”
FC Tour Jeep Progress
With winter landing hard these past two weeks, along with sub zero temps for a few days, about a foot of snow, and our well-water-system freezing up for 48 hours, the FC project got placed on hold. With warming temps the last few days, I returned to working on the jeep.
Here’s where I am at currently. I’ve removed the doors, the carpet, the seats, and the bolts holding the rear bed. I now have to build a frame work to pulley the bed off of the chassis. Pulling the bed was necessary anyway, as I need to figure out how to hook up the low-range shifting mechanism.
As noted earlier, the problem I faced was that the rear seats weren’t comfortable and weren’t tall enough to give the visibility to passengers I wanted. Moreover, the floor is uneven and was carpeted, making cleaning of the floor a more difficult chore than it ought to be. Finally, the rear wheel wells make the far rear seats unusable for most adults.
After much thought, I have decided to build a new floor as one big one-height platform, raising it all to the height of the rear section, which also makes it as high as the original FC Tour Jeep rear beds (per Craig’s measurements). The platform will also be shifted back about five inches, which puts the second row of seats a little more over the rear wheel wells so that the far rear passengers will have more leg room. The rear wheel well will become more circular, which harmonizes more with the front wheel wells. This also better alights the rear of the bed with the rear bumper.
Currently, the plans have me saving the roll cage, which I can use as a template for the bed, and trimming the four rear doors so that they can be reinstalled on the new bed.
Another advantage of shifting the bed a little farther back is that it provides more room behind the cab and radiator to breathe, which should help pull some of the engine smells away from passengers in the back.
Here is a pic showing the before and photoshopped-after-look of the proposed changes.
July 1959 Jeep News
I got this July 1959 issue of Jeep News for free, but it is an incomplete and damaged issue. On page one, the “Millions Will See ‘Jeep’ Vehicle Displays …” article continues on page four, but page four seems to be missing. So, this issue may be six or eight pages in length.
The last page of this edition might be the most interesting. On the lower left is an article showing an FC-170 modified to handle parking an maneuvering big trailers. One the lower right of the page is an article about Tootsie, a South Dakota coyote that became the official state animal, who got to ride in a jeep station wagon on some of her trips.
1959 Jeep Commercial
I can’t find where I have published this 1959 commercial, so here it is.
March 1960 Jeep Service and Parts News
The best part of this four-page March 1960 Jeep Service and Parts News is how to fix an annoying “rumble” in a CJ-5. According to page three, get yourself a pry bar and increase the clearance between the floor pan and the Flywheel housing bolts.

1976 Mitsubishi J44 Jacksonville, FL $12,500
No many of these around.
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/315295271279316
“I have a 1976 Mitsubishi J44 Jeep for sale. $12,500 This Jeep was manufactured by Mitsubishi in Japan in 1976. I imported this vehicle in 2009. Since then, it has lived inside my garage here in Ponte Vedra Beach Florida. I have a clear Florida title for the Jeep. This is the LWB soft top “Troopy” model Type J44 and it does have the right-hand drive (steering wheel is on the passenger side).
The engine is a great running 2659cc 4-cylinder Type 4DR5 diesel engine. The Jeep has a 4 Speed on the floor shifter transmission. I have all the necessary parts to convert it back to the original column shifter. These parts will be included with the sale of the Jeep. This Jeep has aftermarket power steering and A/C installed. The A/C will need some attention before it will work. The Jeep has 24volt electronics.
The Jeep has 31 x 10.5 x 15 Yokohama tires on non-OEM rims. No lift needed. I do have the original split rim wheels that will be included with the sale of the Jeep. Included in the price is: (1) 2x disc brake conversion for front wheel brakes, with knuckles and Aisin free wheeling hubs. Ready to be installed. (2) PTO winch. Koening type. Mounted on original mudguard. Wire cable on spool. All parts that are needed for the installation, drive shaft, to attach to transfer case are there. Check eBay to appreciate the value of this. I would prefer to sell these items with the Jeep but may consider selling them separately. This Jeep has been garage kept since 2009. This is a 47-year-old Jeep so do not expect a “new” Jeep. It still turns heads and is a great conversation starter.”
1954 Wagon Charlotte, NC $34,000

“All original runs drives and stops. Previous owner rebuilt the motor and put a reproduction body tub on it. The Jeep also has a brand new Besttop Top that goes with it. I currently have it off, but can put it back on in a few minutes . It comes with five original 15 inch wheels and a set of 32 x950 super swamper tires. The wheels in the pictures do not go with the Jeep they belong to another Jeep that I own. Carburetor could use a cleaning. It has tons of new parts including gas tank, fuel lines that I have not installed yet and new gauges.. no trades no lowball offers it’s not 50% off day or a fire sale. “Museum quality WWII army Jeep. Frame of restoration. Runs and drives as it should. Very original”
1962 CJ-3B Leland, NC $8750
Has a large driver’s side patch. Runs and drives. It includes a “sports bar”?
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1128855484749007
“Great running and driving Jeep. Engine has been gone through and it starts, drives, stops, like new. F134 Hurricane with the 3 speed transmission, 2-speed transfer case with Warn locking hubs. The frame is in really great condition – straight and solid. Previous owner had put some undercoating on it too so it’s pretty well protected. The body is straight and fairly good for the age but it needs attention. Driver floorboard under the gas tank is the worst spot – it’s on my list to repair. The rest of the body is good other than a little rust hole here and there – all cosmetic. It comes with a sport bar, new bikini top, and a set of boat speakers that work with the little Bluetooth radio the previous owner installed. A solar trickle charger, 4 brand new tires and an older spare.”
1962 FC-150 Morristown, NJ **SOLD**

June 1959 Jeep News
It seems I neglected to post three Jeep News issues from 1959. So, here’s the first one, an eight-page issue from June of 1959. One page one, apart from dealer info, an article shared the news that several gatherings of jeeps would tour the Colorado Rockies as part of the “Rush to the Rockies” Colorado Centennial celebration during the summer of 1959 (an event detailed here).
Page two includes a story of Roy Nickerson and his family’s trip from the tiny town of Smelterville, Idaho, to Toledo to see how jeeps were made and to then drive six vehicles back to their Nickerson Brother’s Willys Dealership in Idaho. Page three tells how then Baltimore Colt’s fullback Alan “The Horse” Ameche participated in a Jeep television commercial (I couldn’t locate the commercial online).
Page four shows some images and stories from the 1959 Tulsa Oil Show Jeep Exhibit. Page five includes a reference to a new, easy-to-install Capstan winch from Ramsey. Page six highlights the large number of jeeps plying the Atlantic Coast-line, including at least two fire trucks. Page seven discusses the Etowah County ‘Jeep’ Club, which doubled as a civil defense unit. Page eight shares pics from the beaches of North Caroline, where jeeps proved popular for fishermen.
