“I have a very nice, mostly original 1949 Willys Jeepster VJ2. It runs, stops, and drives very well. It has the original seat covers under protective covers, the original floor mats, again under protective floor mats, and the original interior panels, working heater, instrument cluster, and even the original radio that works. It has the original L134 engine with the 3 speed transmission and the overdrive. The top is after market, but it is custom to accommodate the very rare glass rear window. The beauty wheel trim rings and the hub caps are also original. It has new modern tires. All the chrome work is original and in amassing condition. It has a very small rust area on the passenger side floor behind the front seat. I think this one belongs in a museum or in a private collection that can do it justice.”

“1948 Willys Jeep CJ 2A “Lefty”. 44,890 miles. Ground up/body off restoration (though engine is f-head) completed in 2003 at 42,380 miles*, has been garaged since.

Upgrades include: 12v electrical system; 11 inch (Ford) brakes; overdrive unit; 5 new Firestone NDCC tires; reupholstered front and rear seats; roll bar; electric wiper motor; seatbelts; overhauled F-head 134ci “Hurricane” engine. Has1947/1948 CA plates. Original cover bows and Kaiser Jeep universal service manual included.

“Purchased new by Rhode Island-based Scarpetti Oldsmobile for exclusive use as a snowplow, a letter from dealership owner Edward Scarpetti indicates that the odometer’s current claim of around 1,500 miles since new is to be absolutely believed.

A lifetime of storage inside a heated garage—except during snowfall—is evident in the exceptional original condition of the well-preserved paint and overall patination. Both the dealership’s hand-lettering and white-wall off-road tires are believed to be original as well, alongside the rarely preserved metal hardtop from Koenig Iron Works of Houston, Texas. The white model 520 “Jiffy Full Cab” top features removable doors and a built-in, high-powered backup light for plow duty, and presents a delightful contrast to the Jeep’s bright President Red paint.

Other than the removable hardtop and a period-correct, dash-mounted Oldsmobile badge from the late 1950s, this CJ -5 is unmodified and features its original 2.2-liter (134 ci) powertrain. CJs were roundly the most capable factory off-roaders of the 20^th century, and this CJ-5 is no different with its two-speed 4×4 transfer case and locking front hubs, all backed by the original three-speed manual transmission—more than enough hardware to tackle any early CJ rally or enter sympathetic service as a ranch shuttle.”

(10/19/2023) I have called the seller of this CJ-2A a friend for over a decade. His 1948 CJ-2A Lefty includes numerous extras. Also included is a unique collection of literature, some of which I’ve never seen elsewhere. The seller was instrumental in provided a great deal of unique, early civilian documents.

This collection is in Europe, so for a European collector it is likely a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get all this at cost far below what it would take to ship (if you could find the equipment) from the US.
