Techatticup Mine Ghost Town — Nevada

• CATEGORIES: Features, Museums, Willys Trucks, Willys Wagons This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

The Techatticup Mine camp was established 1861. The camp is part of the oldest, richest and most famous gold mine in Southern Nevada. Now a tourist attraction, it includes an old Willys truck and, in some photos, a wagon.

The Techatticup Mine camp is located just outside the small town of Nelson Nevada in Eldorado Canyon. It is well reviewed on Trip Advisor. Businesses in the area offer historical mine tours and scenic blue water kayak trips on the Colorado River at the mouth of Black Canyon below Hoover Dam.

Vintage Jeeps in New York

• CATEGORIES: Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Winter is here (in Pasco … it won’t get above 27 degrees today). So, this photo from Eric Jarvis reminded me of warmer days. It was taken in Dannemora, New York.

It was taken in front of his shop in the first part of August.  Not all are his jeeps , three are his  brothers and two are his friends.  From left to right, Steve Jarvis’ 1965 CJ-5, purchased from Don Prine; Eric Jarvis’ 1943 GPW, also purchased from Don Prine; Steve Jarvis’ 1972 CJ-5 Renegade w/ amc 304 v8 and his 2004 Rubicon; Eric Jarvis’ 1968 CJ-5 with buick v6 and 1946 VEC CJ-2A; Todd Perry’s 1951 CJ-3A; Eric Jarvis’ 1970 cj5 Auburn trencher; Eric Jarvis’ 1965 CJ-5; Bob Stiles’ 1961 CJ-5 w /t-98 transmission; and Eric jarvis’ 1967 cj5 w buick v6, his CJ-3A, and his 1964 CJ-5, the latter two both having Koenig PTO winches installed.

1947 CJ-2A Fire Jeep **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A, Features, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

“here’s your chance to own a very rare willys fire truck and they don’t come up for sale often. This willys fire engine is in almost new condition with only 3300 miles on it. This truck was bought new and was the only fire engine the town had until it was replaced in 1972 then it sat in the fire hall un till march of 2015 when I bought it 🙂 Since I have brought it home I gave her a new 6 volt battery and a bit of a tune up. The water tank in the back leaked so I removed it and repaired it and in the process I damaged some of the pipe fittings to the pump so there is a few new 1″ fittings that don’t take away from its quality and curb appeal.

What also makes this fire truck stand out is it was not built in the USA it was built by the Sterling machine and manufacturing co. right here in Canada if your a Willys jeep kinda guy you may have heard of them they also made trailers and pto type accessories. Im happy to assist in shipping anyway I can.

This little unit runs drives shifts and stops if you have any questions I would rather answer them on the phone so feel free to call me any time between 7 am and 9 pm 7 days a week but please keep in mind the time change as im in Calgary Alberta Canada.”

Museum of the American G.I.

• CATEGORIES: Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Seth told me about the Museum of the American G.I. The museum is located in College Station, Texas, and has multiple jeeps. Unfortunately, I could only find one jeep. We didn’t get a chance to reach College Station this spring, but I’m sure we will be back soon. My niece just won a Reigning scholarship at SMU. I guess she’s coming down to Texas to teach them how to ride a horse :-). Seriously, she’s one of the top riders in the country and a great person too match. Texas is lucky to get her!

AHMTA @ the Gilbert Days Parade

• CATEGORIES: Event, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Last weekend Joe’s military transport club contributed thirteen vehicles to the Gilbert Days Parade in Arizona. He took pics of the jeeps and a few others. Great stuff!

Joe wrote, Here are pics of 4 military jeeps from our club (AHMTA – Arizona Historic Military Transportation Association) that drove in today’s Gilbert Days Parade. Scott David’s 1942 slat grill was in pole position, further back was my 1942 GPW, followed by Dave Boehmer’s MB with his son
manning the .30 cal, and protecting our “6” was Mike Wixom’s 1950 CJV35/U.

The weather was perfect; the vehicles all ran great; the crowds were
cheering; and we “invaded” a nearby Sonic afterward.

Staged near our 13 or so military vehicles was a collection of 6 incredible rat rods all apparently owned by, or representing “Preferred Foot & Ankle Specialists“. I don’t know anything about that business/practice but I sure liked his vehicles.

CJ-3A at the Milwaukee Public Museum

• CATEGORIES: Features, Museums This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Andrew spotted this blue CJ-3A in the Rain Forest area of the Milwaukee Public Museum and took most of these photos. The staff informed him that it was used by a museum research team in the 1980s. According to the museum’s webpage, the team collected specimens in Costa Rica during 1986. Since the CJ-3A’s license plates are Costa Rican, they may well have used the jeep in Costa Rica and brought it back with them.

Hugh’s Barn Find MB

• CATEGORIES: Builds, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Hugh wrote me a couple days ago. He was excited to share his barn find jeep, a 1943 MB that had sat for forty years.  Nick Oxender actually found the jeep and told Hugh about it. I wanted to share the jeep with everyone as evidence that barn finds still exist, even in the midwest!

hugh-mb13

Hugh wrote, The jeep is rust free and original and not too bubba-ed up. It has all three seat frames and four combat rims with almost new tires.  The switches and controls on the dash are present and it is only missing the parking brake handle.

hugh-mb5

It runs and drives well, but has a post war engine. The original insulation is on the firewall and the filterette and it came with the original radiator with the horsehair insulation. The original crossover tube, air cleaner and fuel strainer are still there. It also has the original oilfilter and bracket. Someone just switched out the engine and left the T-84 trans and WW2 components alone.

hugh-mb4

I will be watching for an mb engine but it drives just fine right now.  i don’t plan on an extensive restoration, just paint markings, a canvas top and an engine swap. I plan to preserve it. There is a patch right over the transfer case that i believe covered a hole where it had a PTO operated generator.  Judging by the extra holes, ground straps and suppression devices, I believe it was a radio jeep. i am very pleased with this piece of history.  Oh yeah, it needs a front bumper and that crazy hitch on the back removed as well, but its a very original rust free example of a ww2 jeep.

Update on Tom’s CJ-3A APU

• CATEGORIES: Builds, Features • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Tom’s been working on the restoration of this CJ-3A APU. He’s wondering if anyone knows anything about the three-wheeled APUs that were auctioned in California about five years ago. He’s hoping to find some of the hard-to-find APU equipment.

Here are a few photos of the APUs sold a few years ago:

power unit 1 power unit 2 power unit 3 power unit 4 power unit 6

Here’s  how he started, with a jeep he didn’t know was an APU. Since then he’s been learning more about them.
