Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. The motor runs strong and is the same as original, it is a civilian engine which means it is 1946 or newer. It features the rear seat option and is equipped with a strap on jerry can and spare wheel so you’ll never be stranded. “I have a project 1945 Ford GPW in need of a restoration. It’s not 100% complete, but it’s a good starting point. The body has your typical rust, but overall it’s solid. Yes, the original glovebox dataplates are there. The frame is compete, and also solid from end-to-end. Surprisingly, the front gussets, frame horns and rear crossmember have not been hacked and butchered.
All topbow brackets, grand handles, tire carrier, and miscellaneous pieces in the last photo are new reproduction parts.
This GPW is California-registered under my name with a non-operational status. It also comes with the original yellow on black California 1950-1960s licence plates. The number and license plates all match on the title (“pink slip”).”

“My name is Chris Dyer and I’m a 20 yr retired Marine. Found this March 29, 1942 Ford GPW Jeep out on a ranch here in Mason,TX some 12 yrs ago. Bought and restored to a point with my son Nic. We use it for parades and funerals mostly. But as we are moving on in different directions now,figured it is time to sell. The frame and glove plates match. The engine block has a Sept 1944 replacement plate from the Army depot in Texarkanas. Has a standard canopy for it as well. Still has a couple of the “F” stamped bolts throughout and on other parts. Was converted to 12v before I got it. The Texas sun has faded the paint and seat covers. Believe the flywheel is missing a couple teeth but it normally starts right up. It is the real deal. Plate # 9428, one of the 1st 10,000 Ford Jeeps assembled. Worn hard, runs great. Few this old and still running. Here are some resent pic’s. Asking $24,500.00 obo (serious offers only).”

“world war two jeep project that never got finished. original springs, hangers, f scripted bolts etc. still in it. 69 jeep commando axles and trans(t14) and dana 20 transfercase under it.
comes with brand-new best top complete soft top for it that has never been installed. Been sitting in my shed for 20 years. Cutting down on projects not really interested in trades.

“Acquired this in a wheeling and a dealing and don’t have the time for it. Almost 2 WWII Jeeps…..almost. I got boxes of parts I haven’t even looked in yet. The frame and the green body is a 1943 GPW according to the title. The frame has the”F” on the shock mounts as seen in the pictures. An older gentleman started a restoration and thats why the frame is painted and has new brake lines. He also put a whole front floor section in the GPW tub but as you can see, it has a way to go. What else he did I do not know. There are a bunch of extra parts in the buckets and pallet, 3 extra heads, a transfer case that don’t belong, 2 sets of rods, two oil filter assemblies and 2 BO lights and more stuff. This classic jeep was gone through and upgraded in 1998 with a cj2a body and a cj3a windshield on an original ford gpw chassis, rebuilt/upgraded drive train, built to be a reliable and capable off roader. Titled and registered in Colorado.
231 even fire Buick v6 bored .30 over, edelbrock performer manifold with a holly 390cfm 4barrel and a 4 core radiator with manual and electric fans.
Borg-Warner T-86AA synchronized 3spd, Dana 20 t-case, front Dana 30 and the rear is a Dana 44 with a Detroit locker. Axles are stock width with 5.38:1 gear ratio
Mild lift with new springs, all new brake system with 11” drums brakes at all four corners, nice 31-10.50×15 mudders on it now, used to be 32-11.50×15 but they limited the steering radius and did not work well with the Colorado trails.

“Super original WW2 US Army Jeep that has been owned by the same family since released from the government in 1946. The original owner used it on his ranch, after he passed away it was stored for the past 25 years in the garage. Fresh out of retirement, the engine has been rebuilt along with a new wiring harness, rebuilt radiator, completely rebuilt braking system, new exhaust system, new gas tank, new battery, new clutch, front seat cushions, new Firestone military tires and tubes with the original combat wheels. The transmission functions well and shifts very smoothly. I don’t think it would be possible to find a more original and well running and driving Jeep.”

“For Sale: 1942 Ford GPW Open Jeep. This is a bonified WWII Veteran. DOM in ’42, right on the data plate. Data plates are all legible, serial numbers intact. I do not have a title for the jeep. Gun turret mount is on the frame, and part of the tub as designed. This is an original Ford GPW.
The Bad: This jeep was, unfortunately, modified for a 283 V-8 motor. The front cross member has been cut, the front grill internal shroud has been cut and the frame has been drilled in several locations for new motor mount locations. The GPW tub, (embossed tool bin lids & data plates) has been cut at the fire wall for the V-8. You’ve got sheet metal work there at those locations. The drive line is gone down to the driveshafts. I removed the V-8, T-90 and T3 transfer case that was in it. The windshield frame is long gone as are the front seats, rear seat, gas tank and original gauges.

Early GPW bell housing, GPW/Ford marked transfer case and axels. Most small parts correct. Original WWII combat rims with new tires, tubes and flaps. New 6v battery, rebuilt generator and regulator. New GPW marked radiator, coolant is waterless Evans anti-freeze so cooling system will not rust. Repro M31C pedestal mount, original M48 dash mount with 2 cradles. Comes with canvas top, other canvas accessories and a Beechwood heavy vinyl Jeep cover. Can send more pics upon request”
