The bottom of the windshield is unusual; note the gap under it.  I’m not sure how that is staying in place.

“This is a 1943 GPW Ford army Jeep circa WWII.  When this Jeep was puchased, it was badly rusted and in severe need of a restoration.  I want to stress that this is NOT a true to 1943 restoration, but its close.

The body was lifted off the frame.  The frame was sandblasted and painted with enamel paint.  Everything was inspected and replaced if needed.  New brake lines and shocks have been installed.  New brake pads, wheel cylinders, etc.  The wheels were basted and new tires from Coker Tire were installed. The body was also sandblasted and any rust found was cut out and new panels weled in.  The floor is new, front to back and sealed with bedliner.  This was not a restoration to make this Jeep look new.  We wanted a look of an active duy Jeep, so any small dings were left and minimal body work was done.  The body was sprayed with the correct Green enamel.  New glass was installed in the widshield.  The seat were recovered in Army green canvas.  New guages were installed, new steering wheel, and new wiring with late model type fuses.  It has been converted to 12V.  We DO NOT have the shovel and ax.

This Jeep was finished about 1 1/2 years ago, and has had roughly 450 miles put on it.  The engine runs great with its new Solex carb.  Trans and transfer case work great.  This would be great for re-enactments or parades.  if you have questions, please call me at 641-682-8469.  Good Luck.”

1942 GPW Lynn, In $1400

This looks like a great price.  It includes an overdrive and f-script parts.

“This is aproximately a 1942 Ford GPW military jeep. It is functionally identical to a Willys MB, with a few cosmetic differences. It does run, but currently needs brake and drivetrain work. The brakes are soft and the transfer case and rear differential leak. It currently has a 2 barrel 289 Ford V8, which is obviously not original. It also has a later model (50’s) Jeep CJ T90 three speed trans and Dana 18 t-case. Its has a power brake setup added from a Mustang. The frame and tub are in decent condition, the frame doesn’t appear to have rust issues. It has its original front and rear axles with, I think, 4:27 gears. It still has a lot of f-script parts. It also has a 50’s vintage Warn Saturn overdrive and lock out hubs, the overdrive, hubs, and f-script parts alone are worth more than the asking price, I just don’t have the space to part it out. Has 16 inch non-combat rims. I do have a title, it is titled as an assembled vehicle and has an Indiana VIN. Thanks.”

UPDATE:  **SOLD** Was on eBay.

“1943 willys jeep military. This is a really cool and rare willys. It is a barn yard find that i wanted to restore. It has very minimal rust for origional body and a great jeep all around. Im heading off to collage and unfortnatly theres no garage in the dorms so i have to get rid of it. This jeep runs and drives and has a clear title. I havent done anything with it so i dont know much about it, if it is a ford mb i dont know.  So if you know anything about it just let me know. It looks like the guy that i got it from welded something on the hood for an air cleaner as shown in pictures, and i dont think the tail gate thing is origional but is nice, or some welding it could be removed. Thanks for looking! and from the jeep guys any info would be great.”

“1942 Ford GPW (Willys Jeep) Has been used as an off road camping vehicle for the last 30+ years. It’s recently had the seats redone and some misc work. However, there is some damage from a brush fire to a tail light and the top cover. It’s in good overall condition. It would be great to keep as a toy or as a restoration project. Please e-mail me to set up a time to view the jeep. It’s being stored at my father’s house in Mona. I live in Colorado.”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.

This GPW has been in the family for 60 years.  The owner is 96.

“This is a 1943 Ford Jeep. My Dad, 96 years old now,  bought this jeep in California in about 1950, and has had and maitained it all His life. This was his pride and joy. He has pictures of all us kids in it, out on the desert in Calif, and in the San Bernardino mountains. The Jeep has been in Many Parades, toting World War II,  Millitary Warriors. The jeep as far as I know is all original. He always talked about it being original. He has  had it in storage the last few years. We started it up, but gas tank has a leak. He has a lot of extra parts, hood, radiater, wheels, gas tank, etc. It does need some TLC, but still in Great shape for a 1943 vehicle. The seats and motor, and other parts are stamped with the Ford, letter F symbol. We took quite a few pictures, from all angles, so hopefully this will help.”

Shore Patrol Jeeps

• CATEGORIES: Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, GPW (Ford MB), MB • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

I was quite surprised yesterday, as I noted in my post related to the Waikiki VJ Day Video, that I spotted a mustard yellow MB with the words “SHORE PATROL” emblazoned across the windshield frame.  Also interesting is the top on this jeep.  See how it appears to go up before it heads back.  I’m wondering if that’s a hard top of some kind?

That lead me on a trek to find any other shore patrol jeep with a color scheme that was NOT a light blue color.  A quick google search of the term “Shore Patrol Jeeps” reveals an endless slew of light blue Jeeps evoking, in my mind, a Navy theme. However, despite my searches, I couldn’t locate anything other than Navy themed or Army Green Shore Patrol Jeeps.

So, to the upper right is the best snapshot I could get of the Waikiki Shore Patrol Jeep, followed by some other Shore Patrols I found around the web.

Here’s the closest example I found to the yellow one. This one has the unusual top:

From Brian’s WWII site we have this one (google says it should be at this link, but I couldn’t find it):

Here’s one from Flickr

Here’s a different angle of the same one from Fotki:

Here’s one from the CJ-3B Page — this time a complete M-38:

Here’s a ‘Shore Patrol’ jeep that’s likely a M-38 with some other parts  (unsure if this was ever a shore patrol jeep):

Here’s another ‘mutt’ of a Shore Jeep:

Here’s a nicely restored MB Shore Patrol vehicle from Argentina that I featured a while ago:

Here’s a shore patrol motor cycle from the G503 page:

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1500.

On a trip to Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho, Dan discovered this unusual project.   Underneath all the modifications is a 1943 GPW.  What’s amazing to me is that, all things considered, it doesn’t look all that bad.  Someone certainly cobbled together a variety of vehicles, along with a healthy supply of diamond plating to keep this vehicle on the road.  No doubt it was better than sporting a soft top in cold weather.
