Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. (05/05/2014) Doesn’t run. Listed as a 1950, but it looks like a 2A to me.
“This jeep can be used for parts or restored. Missing a few things, but 85-90% there. Engine does not run. Small rust holes here and there, not serious. All running gear complete,rolls so it is towable.odometer shows 70k”
I was busy all day on the jeep. Progress was steady and the unusual lack of swearing suggests it was a successful day! I will have pics and a report in the next couple of days.
On another note, I’ve been experimenting with no-kneed, no commercial yeast breads over the past few weeks. Right now I’m using a strain of sourdough from the San Francisco area. Besides the sourdough, there’s only salt, water and flour. I bake at 455 degrees in a thick ceramic backing dish with a lid.
So far, the results have been great! Check out that last batch here:
I’m going to ‘grow’ a few more starters and try some more complex combinations of flour. I will also be trying a dutch oven in our regular oven to see if that produces a slightly different flavor from the ceramic baking dish. I’ve just ordered both of Chad Robertson’s books as a happy-birthday-to-me gift (bday is later this week) to help expand my repartoire: Tartine Bread & Tartine Book No 3. Stay tuned!
Dennis shared these photos of his ex-wife’s grandfather, Tom Provateare. He’s pretty sure these were taken while Tom was stationed in Germany.
Paul forwarded these two photos of hardtops. Anyone know who manufactured these tops?
The first one is the same model of hardtop Paul’s dad had on his jeep. Paul notes, “This is an old metal hardtop which was used on the WW2 Jeeps. The windows in the doors are moved up and down by straps on the inside of the doors.”
This is another version of the same top. However, the doors on this top have been modified so the vertically sliding windows were replaced by fixed pieces of clear plexiglass. Rather a boxy design even compared to a Jeep.

Clyde is selling his truck. It includes a 1959 parts truck if you pay the full price.
“Very rare 1950 flat nose Willys Pickup. My wife calls it “The Bootlegger”. This body style was only made for 3 years. The engine is a running 1952 Studebaker Champion 170 inline 6. Front differential is a Dana 25 and Dana 53 in rear. The tags show the gear ratio as 4:88. Three speed manual transmission with twin stick transfer case. Pickup has a spring over axle lift on it so it sets tall.
The interior has the original seat that need re-upholstered, original door panels in good condition, original arm rests, push button door release, and the one original sun visor on the drivers side.
I have a clean and clear title for the truck. Call or email me with any questions. I plan on taking the truck to the Just Sell It flea market at GCC this Sunday 6-1-14. Tow bar not included.
Price is $3500 or best offer or trade for ??? If I get the full asking price I will throw in a 1959 Willys Pickup for parts or restore, also with a clear title and 226 Super Hurricane engine.”

I believe we have seen this one previously, but I can’t seem to find the post. The can on the hood is pretty memorable.
“1947 Willys Jeep CJ2A. It has an F-134 “Hurricane” 4 cyl engine. Runs good, but the engine smokes a bit. Brakes are good I have driven on the road. New front brake lines, new headlights, new battery, new front wheel bearings, gas tank was boiled out and repainted. Transmission was completely rebuilt in September. Tires are like new condition. 4WD works fine. The horn, siren, strobe, and backup light all work. Body and floor pans are very solid. The speedometer does not work, but there is a new speedometer gear in tranny and new speedometer cable. Converted to a 12V system. Items included but not pictured are two ammo boxes, fire extinguisher, spotlight, extra carb, emergency brake handle, tow bar, brake cable, paint. This jeep definitely turns heads.”

“1947 Willy’s Jeep CJ-2A. Good title in hand. Has new brakes, brake lines and fittings and wheel cylinders. I have new tires in garage. New fuel gauge, new windshield rubber, factory heater that works, new windshield wipers with motors. 12 volt system. 4×4 3peed. Asking $4000.00 that is the cost I have in it. Price is negotiable but I won’t give it away. It runs great, just needs tlc and I don’t have the time.”

Sad reason for selling the Jeepster.
“Up for sale is the last of the great American Touring cars – the 1950 Willys Jeepster Phaeton.
Car must be sold to cover bills as the owner is a cancer patient. If not sold the car will go to the estate and scrapped.
This car has been faithfully restored to the way it was when it left the factory – with a couple exceptions. Engine is the stock F-134 Hurricane and has been professionally overhauled, with less than ten miles on it.. Everything from front grill on back has been overhauled, repaired, or replaced, and works. New floor pans of the OEM type were installed. New paint has rarely seen sunshine and is a factory color scheme of Clear Maple and Black.

This looks solid. Originally a fire district jeep.
“I am selling a 1973 AMC Jeep CJ6 with a little over 6200 (not a typo) original miles on it. It was originally owned by a rural fire district. They sold it around 1990 to the man I bought it from. It had 2500 miles at that time. I bought it in 2000 when it had 4500 miles on it. I just haven’t been able to bring myself to drive it much. It also has the 304 V8 engine and a 3 speed manual. There is an old school 8000 lb Ramsey winch on the front. I put a 3 inch lift on it, and added 33″ tires and new wheels. There is no top of any kind but soft tops are still available for these. Just to clarify, this is a rare Jeep bodystyle (about 20″ longer than a CJ5) and it is an original, rust free steel body. The only partial trades i could be talked into would be old Scouts, Jeep Commandos or Wagoneers, Broncos, or full size Blazers. I am not interested in any consignment sales.”
I believe this runs. It has a military passenger fender. It’s got a nice cage. And it has an overdrive. It’s worth a look for sure. Not a great description.
