Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. (05/18/2011) This has a solid looking roll cage. It also has a CJ-2A windshield, which means that cage is unusually tall, so the average top probably won’t work on it.
“I’m not sure where to start. I have owned this Jeep since 1998 and I have rebuilt or replaced just about every part on it over the years. THIS IS NOT A PROJECT Jeep, it is turn key and ready to go wheeling. Here are the main points:
-Rebuilt stock F-head engine, head rebuilt and decked, replaced rings but they didn’t seat well so it smokes. Currently running a progressive 2BBL Weber carb with cable throttle. Has manual hand throttle for crawling.
-Stock axles front and rear, 5.38 gears, front has been completely rebuilt with new R&P, axles, bearings, 2.5″x11″ brakes from 1976 Wagoneer, rear has Lock-Right Locker, new 10-spline axles & seals and 2″x9″ brakes from the front.
-Stock rebuilt transmission, transfer case and drive shafts, rebuilt clutch; shifts smooth, no grinding, no noise but drips a little.
-Upgraded master cylinder to a dual reservoir unit from a ’63 Caddy, all new brake hoses, stock parking brake was gone so I installed a Micro-lock to pass Tech inspection.
-I added a late model GM power steering box and pump with a cooler. Frame was completely boxed in front and new crossmember fabricated. All new tie rod ends, HD drag link, u-joint steering shaft, steers with one finger!
-Six point roll cage, rock sliders, reclining seats from an ’03 Jeep, dual spare Jerry cans, replacement plastic gas tank in stock location, swing away spare tire mount, stock wheels with reinforced centers. Tires are 32×11.50R15LT and are almost new.
-All wiring was replaced with a complete fuse box and harness from a mid ’70s GM sedan so all lights work, 12V alternator, has emergency flashers, electric fan, mechanical SW gauges and even a working horn.
-Front leaf springs are longer for more droop, all four spring mounting plates are reinforced and have slider plates to protect the oversized U-bolts.
-The windshield is from an earlier Willys but I have a cut-down 2A windshield frame I will throw in that I bought on E-Bay a few years back.
This Jeep has done most of the trails in Big Bear, CA, including The John Bull both directions, Odessa and Doran Canyons in Calico, Cleghorn (before it was closed), Truckhaven, the Panamints, Death Valley and more. I have had minor issues but it has never left me stranded on the trail. It currently has one locking hub in front and one stock drive flange because I broke a hub last time out. Either replace the hub or I have the other stock drive flange.
It comes with spare front axle shafts, the stock carb and linkage, spare u-joints, tierod ends and whatever I have stashed in the garage that came on it. I have clear California title in hand. Take a close look at the photos and if I have missed something please ask. The Jeep is located about 20min east of Pasadena, CA. Delivery is possible but we will need to work that out in advance.”

The bad is the body, as this is one of ~5000 or so built it is quite rare and hard to get body panels. but if your good at body work then you should be able to figure it out.”

(07/26/2011) This has a rear PTO and was a column shift before a conversion.
“Vintage 1946 Jeep CJ2A. One owner since about 1947. Regularly serviced. Garaged for all of its life and not used for the past 25 years. Engine has been started regularly. First civilian model after WWII. Had shifter on steering column, but has been converted to a floor shift. Original flat head engine has also been replaced with the overhead valve four cylinder ‘hurricane’ engine. Large rear mounted PTO winch. Otherwise, most everything else is stock. In great shape with a ‘Koenig’ steel top. VERY little rust, if any? Repainted, upholstered and gone over mechanically in about 1956. Seats can use new upholstery. Carburetor rebuilt in 2006. Doesn’t burn oil or leak. Tires are all pretty good. Rims have a chrome ring on the rim. Everything works good. Runs great. Great for original restoration or drive it as is. Rick’s brother passed away recently, so Rick is selling his brother’s Wagon project.
Rick writes, “It has a clear title and all the parts (except the original motor), including two transfer cases, a 283 V8 (which is on the side of the house on a pallet) and a straight 6 Ford engine. I think he was leaning towards putting the 6 in it. The back of the jeep is full of parts. I would like to find someone who would love to put it back together.”

From the “I had this corvette and jeep sitting around see … and it suddenly ocurred to me to combine them” department comes this unusual combo. There is work left to do.
“This vehicle was built by taking a 1984 corvette, removing the body, moving the radiator back and the gas tank forward. Then I wrapped the jeep body around it. The jeep body is welded to the steel corvette chassis. I took the jeep body panels down to bare metal. I painted the car myself. It was the first time I ever painted a car (although I have built several other major conversions). The paint looks good from a few feet away but it does have some major runs in places. It was painted approximately 1 year ago but I think the runs can still be sanded out. Although there is very little body filler there are some dents I didn’t fix before painting. Most notably a couple dents on the hood and around the rear corners.
The car runs, drives, stops, steers, shifts, etc. I have driven it but never more than a couple of miles. The motor runs and sounds really nice.
I installed a gage cluster from a 2001 Silverado. The speedo, tach, oil pressure and voltage gage all work.
The chassis is all corvette so it has the legendary C4 aluminum wishbone suspension, aluminum independent rear suspension, aluminum driveshafts, four wheel vented disc brakes, etc.
The car is titled as a 1969 Specially Constructed vehicle, body type: CV for convertible. The title is clear and in my name. It is on planned non operational status right now. The car is smog exempt in California because of the year. The VIN has been welded onto the frame in the front but it should probably be stamped in a couple more locations. The old Corvette VIN is still on the dash and needs to be removed. …. See more on ebay”

“WOW WHAT IS IT?? THATS WHAT EVERY BODY SAYS. IT IS A M274 MULE THAT WAS ON ITS WAY TO BE A JEEP. I AM NOT SURE IT IS A 1966 ? THE OWNER SAID HE GAVE UP ON IT. I THINK ITS GOOD HE DID. MOST OF THE MULE IS STILL THERE. THIS THING WILL BE GOOD FOR PARTS OR TO GO BACK TO THE M274 MULE. I HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING TO IT, AND KNOW NOTHING MORE THAN WHAT HE TOLD ME. “I have a great start to a GREAT jeep rig! An aftermarket (ie NO rust) ’42 gpw flatfender jeep, painless wiring system installed, 6 point rollcage, even a safari rack on top of that, tub is on a CJ 7 boxed frame. linked axles: Dana 44 up front, a BUILT 14 bolt in the rear! (will pop covers and see what gears they are), good windshield, heater installed, and autometer gauges.
The bad: The axles link system was NOT done correctly. Lots of good parts to reuse but needs to be done, correctly! Did have a amc 360 in it with a four speed. They are long gone! But, at least the clutch and brake peddles have already been converted to top swing peddles.”
It is a project. It would not shock me if this wasn’t actually complete.

(07/24/2011) The seller says the value is $3500 in one spot but then lists the price at $4000 in another location.
“I have a running and driveable 1942 GPW Jeep for sale. Its no 90838 of the 260,000 +/- made by ford during world war II.
I have repainted to olive green and have added stars and the numbering on the hood. The things that make take it away from being orginal is it has chrome wheels a 2 inch lift, gas tank move to the back (rather than under the seat) it also has a chevy 283 in it (all the rest from what I can tell is stock or orginal. It also has high back seats.
The floor has been diamond plated and rhino lined. it also has roll bar in the back.
Title is clean and in my name.
I have the value of this set fair at $3500. I will need at least 1/2 in cash and the rest in trade. looking for 200cc / 250cc dirt bike xr250 or such and or hunting stuff or firearms 9 MM or 380s”

“1948 Jeep Willys CJ2A for sale. The jeep sat in a barn since 1999. It ran drove into the parking spot that I picked it up from. There is very little rust. The floor boards and rear pan are in excellent shape. It was repainted at some point to the light blue color. It has original engine and it runs. Brakes work but are spongy due to the rubber getting a little soft. I have both seats, however only had one in for the pictures. Comes with full size spare rim and tire.”

This is listed as a Mighty Mite, which it isn’t, but at a starting bid of $150 this looks like a good parts M-151 for someone. This is part of an estate sale.

I wish I could give you a year but I simple do not know an refuse to mis-represent the products I sell, but it Produced in the 50’s for the U.S. Marine Corp, with less then 4000 ever made. This is a desert car so the body is very well preserved. The motor is still there but has not been started for many years and is missing the carb. It dose has the fold down wind shield but the glass is missing, You will also notice that the seats are not there either. There I a old, hand crank winch in the car that is also part of the sale. There is no title, but with an old car like this it should not be hard to get. This would be great for restoring or built out to an off road beast.”
