Here’s an unusual MB that I spotted on Flickr. I don’t remember seeing it anywhere else (but sometimes my memory isn’t all that good!).

More on this unusual CJ-?A/MB Wagon in Bali
UPDATE: Rudolf sent some additional pics of this rig. Steve gives a good analysis within the comments section.
Rudolf forwarded me this unusual CJ-?A/MB wagon. Rudolf reports that this is titled a 1944 and was used for public transit in Bali. Given the full floating rear end, the rearend might have been from a MB. It reminded me of another vehicle with a similar wood rear end that is located in France (see the red image below).

Really Cool Wooden Top from Iceland
Here’s a great shot of an unusual wooden hardtop for a CJ-2A. The wood appears knotless, too.
1944 MB With Custom Body
I stumbled upon this unusual Willys creature at this prewarcar website. I guess Wally Cohn wasn’t the only person trying to create a unique body on top of the Willys platform.
“2 of these willys mb were bodied in germany in 1945. one was destroyed, ended in hamburg probably beeing rebodied to an original jeep, so when i got that survivor i did not do the same mistake and put it on the road again. now it is one of a kind with all the original chassis, drivetrain, axles etc. even with the original data plate date of delivery nov.11, 1944 (author Bussinger Kfz)”
1948? CJ-2A/3B San Fernando Valley, CA **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $6900
Has an unusual body. My first thought was unibody, maybe fiberglass(?), as I can’t see seams between the front clip and the body. In fact, the hood appears to be a normal sized low hood that sits a top a solid CJ-3B clip (fenders/body/grille all molded/welded together).
“1948 Jeep Willys, 289l V-8, auto trans, B&M shifter, low miles, new interior and upholstery, soft top included, all terrain tires, aux. fuel tank rack, alloy wheels, tow bar, clean paint, runs excellent.”
1942 MB Ramona, Ca **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3500.
This body was widened 6″ … was it done because they could? Also, the rear appears to have been cut and a custom extension added (I don’t think that’s the bolt on extender I’ve seen other some other jeeps).
“The body was widened about 6 inches by Southwestern College years ago. It really is a nice configuration. I have the original military air cleaner setup. It has been converted to 12-volt alternator electrical. The rest of the drive train is stock with the flathead four and works great. The tow bar works great and uses a 1 7/8″ ball. I am selling because I need the covered parking space and my son, who loved and cared for it, will be out of the country for years. Driven regularly. Clean title. 4-wheel drive works fine. Lots of fun! $3500 firm.”
1948 CJ-2A Yakima, WA **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4200.
Can’t say I’ve seen anything quite like this mod.
“Classic 1948 Jeep CJ3A. Mostly original, including motor. 12V conversion, saginaw steering. Always garaged. 42,000 original miles. 3rd owner. No rust, never wrecked. You won’t find a cleaner original 1948 jeep.”
An old Wally Cohnish sort of Jeep
Many readers will remember last May’s explosive expose on the Wally Cohn custom ‘jeep’ built in Germany. Ok, so maybe it wasn’t an explosion heard round the world, but there were a few of us who were interested.
Well, along those lines I found a MB/GPW at Hemmings which had been modified with fenders that brought the Wally Jeep to mind. Here are some pics from the Hemmings Post.

1948 CJ-2A Shawnee, KS **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1950.
(09/30/2010) From the description, you wouldn’t know there’s been a serious modification to this jeep. I’ve seen something similar, but I don’t think it was this one.
“1948 Willys. original flathead 4 cylinder motor, manual tranny, 4X4, and power takeoff. Runs good and 4X4 and power takeoff works. Antique title. Came from South Dakota. ”
Wooden Car
Tommy emailed me this unusual build (note it is a car and not a jeep or 4×4). After a little searching, I found this on ebay as well. If you haven’t seen some of the wooden jeeps featured over the years on ewillys, check them out. For a really fast wooden car, check out this supercar.
According to the email, it is a wooden body built in 2009. “This custom wooden car rides on a 1986 Toyota truck frame and gets power from a Chrysler 318 engine. It is driven by an automatic transmission and has merely 1,800 miles on its speedometer. The whole body is made of cedar and its interior is just as over-the-top as the exterior.”
You can see many more pics of this on ebay

1946? CJ-2A Millsboro, De **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.
(06/29/2010) The serial number of 130476 suggests this is a 1947 rather than a 1946.
“This is a ONE OF A KIND Vehicle. Its a 1946 CJ-2A Willy Jeep. It is tagged In Delaware as an antique vehicle. The body is handmade wood. It is the perfect vehicle for the beach. Usual Car/Jeep Custom Project
I ran across this today at the Jeep Forum. Posted last year, someone was trying to identify it. This is the closest thing I have seen to a Wally Cohn Jeep.

1951ish M-38ish Crawler Thang Sandy, Ut **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2500.
Brett, who’s stealthily become head of the Utah’s ewillys correspondent (so stealthily, that even he doesn’t know it), found this gem … well … someone’s momma loves it.
“THIS WAS MY SONS PROJECT, WHO HAS GONE TO COLLAGE AND DOES NOT HAVE TIME TO FINISH IT. SO I AM GOING TO SELL IT. THE BEAST IS TITLED AS A 1953 JEEP SPECIAL! WE CALL IT THE BEAST YOU DECIDE! Wooden Bodies at Cherrybronco.com
These wooden Jeeps and Broncos were built by a craftsman named Jack who posted these photos to a website called Cherry Bronco.com (site was live in 2010, but has been down for years). He made wooden vehicles and furniture as a hobby in his spare time.
In the case of the 1977 Cherry Ford Bronco below, as you can see in the before and after pics, the body was pretty trashed and in need of something new. The pieces are all 7/8″ to 1″ pieces glued and screwed together. The bumpers and trim are done in Oak and Ash. A single coat of linseed Oil and three coats of Marine Varnish protect the finish and the owners clean it with furniture polish. Surprisingly, the new wooden body is actually 300lbs lighter than the original metal.

I can’t say I’ve ever seen modded 4×4 quite like this.
