Roberto Flores wanted to share his latest illustrations. They were created for a French bimonthly magazine “4×4 Story”. Number, or issue 62, is related to how enjoying the summer with your jeep and its windshield folded down. Vive l´été!!! Number 63 is also related to summer and how to going to the beach…in a DUKW! Roberto didn’t have a chance to translate the comics into english, so brush up on your french 🙂
Seth spotted this odd coin.
“Medal of Tourism of Paris :

Neat card, but crazy price!
“Vintage 1942 Hallmark Greeting Card. Oh so Patriotic!!! Little Boy and Girl in Jeep with fabric American flag. Card measures approx 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches. It is in Great Shape- Still attached to card stock from scrapbook.”

UPDATE: Harry Warholak’s father built a Sidewalk Jeep from the plans in Popular Mechanics when he was a kid in Detroit. Ten years ago he restored it. It spent a year at the Chrysler Museum. Now he’s interested in selling it. You can contact him at 586-996-4103 if interested. He’s located in Georgia.
PREVIOUS POST (February 2013): This kids jeep design was published in the January, 1948, issue of Popular Mechanics and available for free at Google. It is powered by an electronic motor. It looks as difficult to build than a standard jeep! The notes added to this particular issue are interesting, too. The top note appears to reference a 1949 Christmas Handbook that might also include these drawings.

UPDATE: Hard to believe it has been almost three years since I published this post!
I discovered these directions for the Muller Custom Top in the August 1965 issue of Four Wheeler Magazine that we’ve seen on nicely modified Fresno area Jeeps. I’m considering building one of these for Biscuit and selling my Kayline.
Seth spotted this club patch for sale. I tried to find a website related to this club, but didn’t have any luck. The price is crazy!
Nicely framed ads.

Seth spotted this one. When I looked at it closely I realized that both at the top left corner ‘Daisy’ is spelled ‘Disey’ and at the bottom right ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ is spelled ‘Dukes of Harzard’.
Roberto Flores forwarded his latest doodle. My doodles NEVER look that good 🙂
Her are a couple additional illustrations. Based on a quick look of Mr. Arifman’s projects, it appears they are well done.
Roberto writes, both have been commissioned by Mr. Firman A. Arifman, from Indonesia. He´s a Willys jeep restorer and his company is called “Reborn Workshop”, located at Yakarta. This is its Facebook website:
Roberto Flores forwarded these two illustrations with some background information. Great as always!
Here are a couple of pics of my newest commissioned order cartoons for the “Jambo Jeep 2015” meeting. This is a classic jeep and 4×4 held each year at Navarre, where I live. From some years ago, the crew which organized this meeting ordered me some artwork, as cartoons or logos. This year, they have asked me to draw the logo too (I would try to find some pics of it) and these 2 cartoons. One shows a fully restored WW2 US Army Dodge WC51, with markings of the famous 101st AB division “Screaming Eagles”. His owner is posing next to it and dressed with the airborne division uniform. Also, you could see his girlfriend at the background and some architecture from the village in which they live, Murla, at Alicante, on the Mediterranean coast.
The other “violet” Willys jeep is a Spanish Viasa one modified to look as an US flatfender by his owner, who appears too at the drawing, posing with all his family. Also, I have drawn some well known monuments and so of their village, Almacelles, at Catalonia.
David discovered this sticker at his local auto shop: Mid County Auto in Capitola, California. He wrote, Have you seen these Sea Foam stickers? I was in my local auto parts / machinist and they gave me this sticker today. They told me that the local Sea Foam rep left them and since they know we’re GPW guys, the shop saved one for each of us. How cool is that? It’s about 4.5 by 7 inches. You can see the actual outline of the sticker on the scan; it’s not rectangular.
Another copy of this Bob Clemens book is for sale.

Willys’ Jeep was a promotional pamphlet geared towards children to provide history pertaining to the Jeep used during World War II . A beautiful and rare piece of Americana. Written by Bob Clemens. Illustrated by Patricia Windrow. 17 pages. 10×7 inches. Solidly bound. Quality guaranteed with full refund”
David spotted this original cartoon dated 1945 on Craigslist.
“Original 1945 GI Art/Cartoon

Here’s a classic from my childhood. The illustrations were done by B. K. Taylor. and sold in a series of Odd Rod packages that included chewing gum (see example of package at bottom). These certainly remind one of Big Daddy Roth’s illustrations. You can view more odd rod illustrations here.
This WWII postcard will be shipped from Lisbon, Portugal. Neat illustration.
At 3.5″ x 5″ this isn’t too big, but it sure looks interesting.
“THIS IS A RARE OLD AND ORIGINAL 1941 ONE-OF-A-KIND “65TH COAST ARTILLERY” FORT BARRY, CALIFORNIA WATER-SLIDE DECAL.
GREAT ILLUSTRATION OF A DOG SOLDIER MANNING A HOOD-MOUNTED MACHINE GUN ON HIS JEEP AND TOWING A 3-INCH ANTI-AIRCRAFT GUN.
THE 2ND BATTALION 65TH COAST ARTILLERY WAS STATIONED AT FORT BARRY ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE IN THE MARIN COUNTY HEADLANDS. MADE UP MAINLY OF 3-INCH ANTI-AIRCRAFT GUNNERS FROM WASHINGTON, OREGON AND CALIFORNIA STATES, THEY DEVELOPED A FRONT-PEDESTAL MOUNT FOR 50 CALIBER ANTI-AIRCRAFT MACHINE GUNS FOR THEIR JEEPS. MADE BY THE FAMOUS ILLUSTRATORS AT THE LACQUER GRAPH PROCESS COMPANY, LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
THIS UNUSUAL BEAUTIFUL DECAL SHOWS ITS AGE, BUT DISPLAYS WELL IN EXCELLENT UNUSED CONDITION.
IT MEASURES ABOUT 3 1/2 BY 5 INCHES IN SIZE.
IT WOULD BE A NICE ASSET TO ANY 2ND BN 65TH COAST ARTILLERY REGIMENT, SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA STATE OR TRAVEL DECAL COLLECTION.”
While Paul Lanquist’s CJ-3A looks pretty accurate, the background doesn’t look like the parts of Bryce Canyon National Park that I’ve seen.
Here’s a standard print by Paul. It can be printed on all kinds of items:
1. 16 ounce Coffee Cup on eBay
It’s supposed to be a vintage

Thanks to Roberto Flores for this Happy New Year’s illustration!
And to Alex at Tahiti Pacifique for this illustration:
One more Santa post. Jalopnik posted this rendition of Santa driving a ‘jeep’ that was painted by Australian James Higgins Quirk in the 1950s. The original image is part of a digital collection at the Museum Victoria.
