1947 CJ-2A with extended rear Ramona, Ca **Status Unknown**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, Unusual • TAGS: , .

UPDATE: **Status Unknown** was on eBay

This is very interesting.  The rear on this seems similar to the rear extension on yesterday’s lead Colorado jeep.  The seller believes this is an ambulance.  I searched for an example of CJ-2A ambulance, but have yet to find any images that verifies one was built (though I’ve seen other extended CJ-2As). It seems more like a utility rig to me, especially given what appear to be utility racks above.  I also believe the lack of a siren (or spot on the roof where one was mounted), also suggests it wasn’t an ambulance.  None-the-less, the starting bid of $650 is a good price and  it would be an interesting rig to restore.  The seller provides a great, detailed review of this.

“I have never seen another jeep exactly like this. Its pretty rare. It is a left hand drive (so, its clearly not a postal jeep), its a flat fender, 4 wheel drive Willys jeep with an extended body and ambulance racks. (I do have a similar Swedish Jeep included in the photos for reference.) It needs restoration.

The metal tub is extended 24” and looks to be all original work from the time of manufacturing, it is well done and very unique. The extension is aft of the rear wheels as pictured.

The most amazing aspect of this jeep is the aircraft style aluminum top (“Tin Top”, if you will).  The top has what I am told are stretcher ‘stays”. We were told this is an ambulance, and by all appearances, it would function as an ambulance. The top itself is original to the jeep and done professionally, its solid and riveted to perfection.

The top has functioning aluminum side storage doors and rear body aluminum storage doors that open and lock (as pictured). The top interior has metal caged storage areas, all are sturdy and have been in place about 60 years, holding up to the test of time!

The lower body is steel with age appropriate and reparable rust, but has been in California for many years and much of it is surface rust. The floor board rust and a couple other rust areas will need more elbow grease and restoration than other areas and is more than surface rust. You have to ask me questions on this and look at the photos as some of the rust will need actual rust repair. I want you to know the needs of this project so that you are happy with your purchase.

The front grill is temporarily attached for engine replacement, it will need to be bolted back in properly.

The original tail gate is in tact and functioning.

The original tilt-out windshield frame is there, minus the glass (you guys know how easy this is to get replaced).

All original gauges are there (no broken glass!)

All original latches (windshield, seat, etc.) are present

Original drivers seat is present and functioning (needs restore)

Passengers seat present (original?)

Original gas tank

Original shifter levers

Original 4×4 transfer case

Original Axles

Original Transmission

Original Two Piece Hood

Original fenders

Original Tub

Original Steering Wheel

Original Steering Gear

Original aluminum “sun visor” (over windshield area)

Military Style Pintle hitch  mount in rear

Tow Bar attached to the front

Has 5 on 5.5 Jeep lugs will need new tires, but rolls freely as is

Will need new brakes, original brake cylinder is in place

Mechanical:  The axles, transfer case and transmission are all in the jeep.  Both driveshafts have been removed, but the original rear driveshaft and also, 1/2 of the front driveshaft are both included in a large box of parts that go with the Jeep. You guys know you can get these driveshafts with ease.

The engine is not installed but is included as well. It was removed for restoration (so that part of the job is already done!). It will need obvious restoration, but is not clearly not seized as the crank is out of the block. If I were to complete the project, I’d give it an acid bath and re-assemble. You will have to purchase a single rod and piston (which is available at “Border Parts” in San Diego), plus purchase the correct fly wheel (there is a fly wheel, but it does not appear to be correct), everything else is present including motor mounts and the head (as pictured). The engine is what I was told to be the original engine. It is a Willys flat head 4, has an original 1958 job tag riveted to the block (see pictures).

The attached engine job tag shows 2 cylinders, 1 rod and one main bearing was replaced in 1958 (again, see the pictures of the metal riveted on job tag).

The camshaft and valves are still in the block.  Also included are 3 rod and piston assemblies, the crankshaft, main bearing blocks, side valve cover, manifold, exhaust, oil pan, head, etc.

MISC. INFO.:

We can not know the actual mileage as the paint has faded.

At some point in the past, a pipe vise was added to the front bumper, it can easily be removed.  Also, barely visible below the driver’s windshield is a red stenciled ” FIVE STAR GENERAL” .  No, I don’t believe it was a real 5-star general, just a guy who was very happy with his unique jeep.

This Jeep is sold with a bill of sale only, it is a collectible and will need to be restored before going on the road, however, both VIN tags are attached as photographed, this will be an easy registration (and NO smog required :).”

The World’s Best Coffee Jeep

• CATEGORIES: Features, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, International • TAGS: .

Here’s another reason to travel to Colombia.  Sebastian’s father spotted this gem.

Sebastian writes, “My dad took these pictures today in Rio Negro, Antioquia, Colombia. I have seen Willys being used for almost everything in Colombia, but I never saw this before, a moving coffee shop. Look all the details, the art on the doors and on the tailgate, the speakers (stereo) on the roof, the coffee machine inside, the ketchup on the side, it has everything! The name displayed on the sides reads “Camperito del Café, lo mejor del mundo”, which roughly means the coffee jeep, the best of this world. No doubt about that.”

More on this unusual CJ-?A/MB Wagon in Bali

UPDATE:  Rudolf sent some additional pics of this rig. Steve gives a good analysis within the comments section.

Rudolf forwarded me this unusual CJ-?A/MB wagon.  Rudolf reports that this is titled a 1944 and was used for public transit in Bali.  Given the full floating rear end, the rearend might have been from a MB.  It reminded me of another vehicle with a similar wood rear end that is located in France  (see the red image below).

Unique Collection of Jeeps East Haddam, Ct

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A, CJ-6, CJ-7, CJ5, Features, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, Unusual • TAGS: , , .

UPDATE:  Brian’s selling his unique collection of jeeps.  Among them is a CJ-6 Wrecker, a CJ-5 Trencher, CJ-5 Snow Blower and the first CJ-5 ever produced.

You are bidding on a massive collection of jeep vehicles, literature, memorabilia, dealer items, toys, and much more.   This is the collection of Jeep restorer and enthusiast, Brian Hainer, of Brian’s 4wd Parts, LLC.   This list of vehicles is as follows:

1946 CJ2A,
original survivor with 7000 miles on it.  Original top, chaff screen, rear seat.  Even has original key and invoice from Willys/Overland.  Has the patina of a 50+ year old vehicle and is one of the most original examples of a CJ2A in existence.

1962 CJ6 Garage Service Vehicle. This has been restored from the ground up and is flawless.  Original Koenig Wrecker Boom, and Front winch.  Twin Stick PTO powers the front winch, rear wrecker winch, and air compressor.  Since the photos posted were taken I have made some top bows and sewn a full lenght bikini top for it.  Made out of black canvas.  I also added a Extend-a-Bed to this vehicle.  There just isn’t any room back there to carry anything and I wasn’t planning on using the boom so I added the extension.

1977 Jeep CJ7. This satisfied my need to go fast every now and again.  V8 304, 4.10 gears, ……  This jeep is a perfect driver and restored with the same care as every vehicle that comes thru my shop.

1968 CJ5 Jeep-a-Trench. This is an unrestored CJ5 bought from the original owner a couple years ago.  Everything is there and is a great example of a trencher.  Runs and drives but smokes like crazy.   Awaiting restoration.

196?  CJ5 Snowblower Jeep. Not exactly sure of the year.  This came from an airport and has 109 miles on it.  Runs perfect, has the T-98 4 speed in it, but it is very rusty.  Body will need replacing.

CJ5 10001 Cut Away Jeep Chassis . This jeep chassis is a cut away display model made by Willys.  It has every option you could install on a jeep at the time and everything is cut open so you could see the operation of it.  Front winch, governor, twin stick pto, rear gearbox, and right angle pulley.  A true piece of history.

That about covers the vehicles.  Also included in this sale is every piece of literature, memoriabilia, jeep toy, etc.. that I have collected over the past 30 years.  If it is jeep related I probably have it…. bought out a lot of dealers and collected a lot of signs, and early salesmens books.

The Jeep Toy collection is an impressive one and includes #92 of the Fine Art Model of the ww2 MB.   Fine art models got into a battle with Chrysler a while back over making these and it is very rare to ever see one for sale.   You will receive #92 with this collection.

1946 CJ-2A Boyer Fire Jeep Oro Station, Ont, CA **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A, Features, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles • TAGS: , .

UPDATE:  **SOLD** Was on eBay.

(01/29/2011) Starting bid is $12k.  It looks well maintained, but dusty.

“Up for auction is an original WILLYS 1946 CJ2A BOYER FIRE JEEP.

It is extremely hard to find an original Boyer jeep with that many accessories still on the vehicle. To find out more about Boyer jeeps please go to http://cj3b.info/Fire/fireindex.html.

The jeep is in orginal condition. It appears it has been painted once. The engine runs nice and smooth, all driveline works. Engine has original governor. The mileage on the vehicle shows 2304 miles however the speedometer appears to be broken. Jeep has some rust issues: front floor especially under the tool box (rusted through), on back corner behind reflectors (both corners rusted through), otherwise the outside body, fenders, etc. are in excellent condition especially the windshield frame (have never seen one in that great shape for a 1946 vehicle!).

The jeep comes with all the accessories you see in the pictures. Unfortunately it didn’t come with the pump. It appears that the pump was removed many years ago. The jeep was stored inside for many years, we changed the fueltank and the exhaust system as we didn’t want to take a chance with the old one with old fuel in it. The old fuel tank is emptied and is included in the auction. It appears there were no leaks from the old fueltank. Most likely it will need to be boiled out.

The brakes need to be looked after as the brake pedal goes straight down to the floor however it moves freely.

We have a professional restoration facility for Willys Jeeps and in our opinion this would be a simple restoration because everything is there to do nice job. Fuellines, brakelines, wiring harness all original.

This vehicle comes without any warranties or guaranties. We have over 15 years of experience in shipping vehicles worldwide and will assist buyer with shipping/loading and paperwork.

Shipping, taxes and/or other fees (import, customs, etc.) are not included in the auction and are the buyers responsibility.”

Another Pic of the San Juan Scenic Jeep Tours

• CATEGORIES: Features, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, Old Images, Willys Wagons • TAGS: .

From Craig’s (from thefcconnection) never ending collection of unusual Jeep images comes this rare shot of the San Juan Scenic Jeep Tour Wagon convertibles.  Jesse forwarded this image to me along with a snapshot of an uncompleted transformation of a Wagon the company had partly modified.  You can see the earlier San Juan post here.

Technically, it was Dave Beamis who was modifying the wagon.  He worked for San Juan Tours years ago.  Dave would go on to start Crystal River Tours and his son, Dave Beamis, started and runs Crystal River Lodge with his brother.

Jesse reports, “all of the Scenic and Crystal River Tours FCs and Wagon Jeeps were repowered while in service, because of the altitude and amount of weight of the passengers, they removed the flathead Hurricane 6 and replaced it with the Chevy 250 or 292 inline 6 engines, with an adapter.”

Here’s the picture from Craig:

From Jesse is the image of an in-progress convertible wagon.  Jesse notes, “this a picture of another wagon body that I bought. It was there, it was cut, but never hammer welded to be finished, Dennis said that when one was wrecked they would have extra bodies to replace on the running chassis. Notice this was on a 4×2 frame.”

Andy’s 1947 CJ-2A Airport Jeep

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A, Features, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, Unusual • TAGS: .

A reader named Andy contacted me the other day about a flatfender that he purchased.  He was told it was a former airport Jeep. Anyone recognize some of these mods?  How about them rims!

Andy writes, “No data tags inside the body, but need to check the firewall tomorrow. The guy I bought the jeep from says that he saw another one with the same wheels on it at the hunting camp where he got this jeep …. There is some use of aluminum in this body, goes hand in hand with the airport shop mod theory …. It appears that the patches in the floors and sides were not really needed at the time they were done.. the body was still very sound in those areas. Looking in the wheel wells, you can see the original not rusted body covered by a layer of metal from the top. I think you may be right on the combination of manuf. top with some airport shop ‘extras’. Those doors sure are unique, I have not seen such before ..”
