This looks like a backyard hardtop to me.

“Steel cab from 1955 CJ3b. Unknown make, no mfg tag. No doors.”
I bought this magazine based on the cover, hoping there would be some good photos in side. Nope, the best part of the article was the magazine cover.
Roger Martin’s Southwest Ohio FC Gathering is taking place this weekend. He shared a few pics from yesterday.

This article from the May 24, 1965, issue of the Capital Journal, Salem, Oregon, follows the Salem Jeep Club’s trip with the Yakima Mountaineer’s Jeep Club (I’m not familiar with that club name) into the Cascade Mountains, specially the Ahtanum area west of Yakima.
Lots of updates for Cascade Mountain jeeping.

“1947 CJ2A, Refreshed 302 ford, gear drive, headers, Edelbrock carb, small cam, C4 Auto full rebuild 1 year ago at Strange transmissions, tranny was built to have no slippage between gears during shifts and to assist braking on deceleration. 2 1/2” dual exhaust into a single flow master in the back of the rig. Military OD green, CJ5 frame boxed where they need to be. Dana 44 disc brake front axle with Warn hubs, Dana 44 drum brake rear with a Detroit soft locker installed. Low gears, don’t remember but think they were 411, may be 456. Front has Blazer 2 pack leaf springs mounted outboard of the frame with shackle reversal incorporated.
Rear has Blazer 3 pack springs mounted outboard of the frame. Billestien remote reservoirs on the front axle, rough country’s on the back. Warn 8274 winch. Custom stainless fuel cell underneath between frame rails. Custom stainless air tank on the back with hard lines to A/C pump, removed the a/c pump when working on the rig and haven’t reinstalled it yet but it is included. All lights and blinkers work perfectly. Ignition and accessories are operated thru a series of switches with a battery disconnect switch for override. Drivers floor has been patched where rust was, has been on my list to repair but never got to it, I have galvanized sheeting and 1” tube steel for the floor that can go with it. 33” old set of swampers on it, quite old but still plenty of tread and close to round. Call for more details. $6500 only trades up/down considered would be for side by side.:
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $5800.
The price seems reasonable on this mix-of-parts jeep. It has a GPW body. Given the hood bump, it might have an f-head, too.
1941 Willys “Jeep.” A true American hero. She served in WW II and was dissembled and then reassembled to serve again in the Korean War. She is titled as a 1941 but appears to have parts through the Korean War as was common for military Willys. She runs but is 79 years old. Her 4wd will take you anywhere. Please do not bid or buy if you do not intend to complete the sale. I have recently downsized my house and no longer have the space for this historical vehicle.”
UPDATE: This was relisted for sale in 2024: http://www.ewillys.com/2024/06/04/1963-fc-150-fire-truck-canister-ny-8500/
Dan shared this project FC. It’s got some cool vintage lettering.

I’ve had 20 years & it’s never been on the road since I’ve owned it Sold my mountain so no where to use it . Also have a plow for it”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $450.

“Willys jeep cj3a steel half cab , 2 doors with roll up windows, decent shape .”
Given the 0-8 KS speedometer, this is likely a 1956 DJ-3A Convertible.

“Very light surface rust, no running gear. 2 wheel drive with wide whitewalls. I just don’t have the time and have many other Willys that I am working on. Tires have new tubes, frame and body are in excellent condition. Cash only, will delete when sold. Not positive what year it is”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $600.
I’m sure someone could use these.
“4 matching combat wheels and tires off a 1944 willys mb jeep. good shape, not bent surface rust only.”
Has some rust. Looks like the passenger side tool indents have been filled/patched.

“I have owned this jeep for 24 years, restored it and drove it in parades and entered a couple car shows as well. Health problems have kept me from maintaining it the way it should be and I no longer have a garage to store it in or work on it. It has some rust on driver side front fender, passenger side under door, and floor pans. The frame is solid, motor was rebuilt in 2001 and has low miles on it. Jeep has not been started in several years so the gas tank will need to be cleaned out thoroughly. Many extras like mud/snow tires and wheels, military manual, old parts, and contacts for every nut bolt and screw. This would make a great restoration project since M38s
are rare and this one has only 42,456 original miles.”
UPDATE: Still Available.
(03/06/2020) Has a bobcat hood. It’s a project.

UPDATE: This post has been updated with the May 1952 article on Vic Hickey’s “Mountain Goat” jeep.
Gayland spotted this unusual setup for painting tall places from a jeep. This was published on page 114 of the January 1950 issue of Popular Mechanics. Just hope it isn’t a windy day!
The is a better look at the rigging:
And a close up of the jeep:
This April 02, 1943, photo highlighted Sioux City’s North Junior School’s purchase of not one, but two jeeps as part of the “buy a jeep” bond campaign. They were the first school to buy one (and the first to buy two) jeeps. The Secretary of the United States Treasury presented the school with an award for its efforts.
The photo is dated May 5, 1985, probably because it was placed into a newspaper on that day. In my opinion it looks like a staged photo, given all the decorations on the jeep and the way the soldiers exit the landing craft, yet still provide the photographer a great look at the jeep. No description provided.
Looks like a good price of this Dodge Command Car Model (once known as a jeep). If I were close, I’d probably get it.

Can’t beat this for $5. The Buddy L in the background would have been fun as a kid, too.
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $9900.
Appears worth a look.
“Own a piece of history!!!
You are viewing a very healthy, great running flat head M38 Willys. My father is parting out some of his collection. He bought this barn find/survivor back in 2009. It has been kept in a heated garage since & im guessing for most of its life too. Continue reading
