Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. The engines don’t run (seller makes a point of this after being asked many times). This GPW has been disassembled. Seller is selling individual parts at this time.

post war L134 engine and radiator, period correct
F-marked T84 transmission housing and gear set
F-marked Transfer case housing and some gears
Steering assembly, leaf springs all four corners
original front and rear axle
original frame, with serial that matches body tub, with tran mount, but no front bumper
original body tub with serial that matches frame, fenders, hood, windshield, grill
one starter and generator, period but not correct
assortment of other parts and takeoffs that were sourced from ebay, local sales, g503, etc too many to list
Listed as a 1946 CJ-2A, this seems more like a GPW based on the front cross member. But, there’s been some frame mods, so this needs a closer inspection.

This ’46 has reportedly only traveled a little over 12,000 miles. They are VERY basic, they are not fast, but, the bloody things will go just about anywhere…just don’t be in a rush 🙂
The Jeep starts instantly cold or warm and runs great. There are no rust significant issues and as expected is finished in Olive drab.

“This is a very cool old-school build from the 1960s. Check out those custom doors. So much vintage nostalgia. It has a small block Ford V8, Saginaw steering. wide wheels and a custom dash. It has been recently rescued from Being stored for over 20 years. It’s a project! The engine runs really good. (New carburetor, new spark plugs and wires.) It steers well. It has a new brake master cylinder and some brake lines. it needs the rest of the brakes gone through, an alternator and the wiring redone.  message me and I can send you a walk around video”

UPDATE Posted July 04, 2019: This post has been updated to reflect some more information and images. It was originally posted in March of 2013.
Metamet was a British company that refurbished WWII jeeps and civilian jeeps, creating a slew of different models. According to the G503 Forum, “Metamet was run by an expat Pole, and latterly his son. It was a wonderful Aladdin’s caves of wartime Jeeps and Jeep bits and pieces located in a series of old mews stables in Daleham Mews. These places were commonly garage workshops in post-horse London, but nowdays are worth untold fortunes as residences.”
At one point in the early 1950s there were twelve different models of jeeps offered by Metamet, only one of which was the standard production model jeep. The rest were all customizations of one type or another. Seven models were 80″ wheel base, while the other five had 100″ wheel bases. The models include, the Standard, De-luxe, Farmer, Five-in-one, Saloon, Shooting Brake, 10 CWT Truck, Metaplan, Station Wagon, 15 CWT Van, 20 CWT Lorry, and a 2 Ton Loadmaster.

This has some old school updates. Some, like the tail lights, doors, and fender flares, are similar to some of the Fresno jeep mods.
“I have a 1943 Ford GPW for sale. It has the original gpw chassis and tub but the grill and hood are from a cj3a. The seats are from a Chevrolet car and sit on custom fabricated frames. The gas tank has been moved to the back to sit under the tub. It comes with a Chevy 152 engine which has 90hp and 152 lb ft of torque. Nice little 4 cyclinder engine, starts up first crank and runs smooth. The transmission is a T90 and needs to be rebuilt. Right now the third gear synchro is broken and second gear grinds. It come with a really nice roll cage, set of doors that lock, and a rear seat. The price is $6500 OBO. I paid $7500 for it, and was hoping to throw a new tranny in her and have some fun. But I’ve been busy and just don’t have time to work on it.”

This is a restoration project. A square hole was cut out of the hood, I have two sheet metal pieces to weld in….other than that, the hood is really nice. “1942 ford GPW. WWII era jeep built by ford for the war effort on the bantam/willy’s design. ( not a bronco obviously) The dash tags are sadly missing. This project needs a new home, original transmission, transfercase, axles and drive lines and rims. The tub and fenders are original, the floor was replaced as well as the seats. (Not original) There was a Chevy 283 put into it that changed the original steering and motor mounts. The firewall was notched back to make room for the V8. Not selling with a motor. The engine bay is currently empty. I was hoping to get a four cylinder back into it. The V8 was too heavy for the suspension. The patina is from the original owner having it stripped of paint. So it is RUST in color. I had it running and driving, lights and brakes are good. The tires are cracking and the motor was pulled. Too many projects and not enough time.”
