This sale is for a 1:8 scale Fine Art Models Willys MB Jeep produced in 1992. This model is number 60 of 250 ever produced. Numbers started at 20200900 as the hood marking and went up to 20201150. The model measures approximately 18″ long.
FAM’s model of the Willys Jeep is considered the most sought after miniature amongst Jeep enthusiasts for its attention to detail, proportions and gauges, and material usage in every respect.
Every part on these jeeps (as is the case with many of their other models) is manufactured by studying and measuring a dissasembled wartime vehicle. Parts are either soldered together or bolted; no glue is used. The sheet metal components on this vehicle are in formed brass, castings are bronze or white metal, the windshield, headlamps, parking lamps and instrument lenses are glass, shift boots and door straps are canvas, weather stripping is rubber or felt, and correct pattern Goodyear tires are made using their own molds in rubber. The 1947 Craftsman Annual Project Magazine contains forty-four wide ranging projects for the builder who was to try constructing everyone. Of course, there’s a battery toy jeep project among the items (directions shown below), but also included in the magazine are plans for building from scratch a welder, a battery-less telephone, a Jolly Roger boat, a hand vise, a rocket, a farm tractor (from car parts), and much more.
Tim shared this link. I’ve shared the FC video made by head quake, but not this RC jeep video.
John forwarded this article about a Willys truck bank that was rebuilt into a proper jeep truck.
UPDATE: This was listed last March on eBay. It’s back.
This battery powered jeep was built by J. F. Scott of Seattle. It weighed 100lbs and can reach 10mph. Based on all the kids, it doubles as a personnel carrier, too!

IT IS MADE OF A HEAVY CAST METAL , IS 6″ LONG 2.5″ WIDE . VERY COOL AND VERY CLEAN. AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICS IT IS ORIGINAL AND COMPLETE , THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BUMPER IS BROKEN OFF (THIS IS QUITE TYPICAL ON THESE) AND THE WIND SHIELD WILL FOLD ALL THE WAY BACK AS SEEN IN THE PICS. IT WILL ALSO STAY IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION, WILL DISPLAY VERY NICELY.ALSO HAS ORIGINAL SPARE TIRE.”
Richard Michalsky builds “mini-jeeps” out of his shop in Bolivia. These jeeps are all metal. The first vehicle, an MB look-a-like was completed in 3 years. It is 25% Smaller than the original vehicle and is 2WD, but has made of the same details. It is powered with a 3 Cyl engine from a Kia 1000cc. It weighs around 1250lbs.
This second jeep is a civilian model. It’s styled different, but appears to be built in a way similar to the MB-like jeep. It too is only 2WD. They look like a kick to drive around.
Pfc. Harold B. Whiting of Plainfield, New Jersey, built an award-winning model jeep that in 1946 that landed temporarily on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This article was featured in the February 2, 1946, issue of the Afro-American. I wonder where that model is now??
Some folks were interested in more photos of the Smokey Bear Music Box, so Marty Tilford shared some good photos of his.
The music box is a convertible CJ-5 jeep and Smokey Bear with 2 cubs riding inside. The CB radio cord is rubber but all other material is resin. Music box plays “TAKE ME HOME COUNTRY ROAD”, which is a John Denver song. Measures about 4-1/2″ tall and has a base measurement of 6″ x 4″.

UPDATE: Harry Warholak’s father built a Sidewalk Jeep from the plans in Popular Mechanics when he was a kid in Detroit. Ten years ago he restored it. It spent a year at the Chrysler Museum. Now he’s interested in selling it. You can contact him at 586-996-4103 if interested. He’s located in Georgia.
PREVIOUS POST (February 2013): This kids jeep design was published in the January, 1948, issue of Popular Mechanics and available for free at Google. It is powered by an electronic motor. It looks as difficult to build than a standard jeep! The notes added to this particular issue are interesting, too. The top note appears to reference a 1949 Christmas Handbook that might also include these drawings.

There’s another version of the 1960 Nassau Surrey for sale on Amazon and mentioned on the CJ-3B Page (scroll down to Newer Toys).

Not to scale, but still might make someone a fun project. Thanks to Roy for spotting this one.
“I have an unusual project for you!
hand built or homemade mini jeep body….
this is all steel and is 36″ wide by 68″ long
great start to a custom build, put this on a lawn tractor or use atv components for a true 4wd build.
Imagine the time this took to build, unknown history, possibly from lakeside or elitchs???”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1300
Just for fun …. Even includes a trailer.
“This is a homemade replica of a Willys type Jeep. Has a Volvo 3 speed manual transmission, Volvo rearend and front suspension. The motor is a 17HP Kohler V-Twin, runs and drives fine, but needs a 3 speed shifter. Guy who built it only used 1st and reverse, but with the 3 speed said it would run 35MPH, and that was too fast for his kids. Has a trailer hitch for working around a small farm, or use as a golf cart. Would be great for a camping vehicle in a campground.
Open to trades, but please be reasonable. Could use a few small things to make it nicer, windshield, rollbar….
Headlights and tail lights work, even has hydraulic brakes, and brake lights work.
Asking $1300 obo, or possible trades.”
This is an interesting story.
