Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This image shows a young girl and her Sherwood Lightening peddle jeep. I found what I think are images of a good example of this model (seen at bottom).
According to one site, this Sherwood Lightning Express pedal jeep was produced from 1947-1950 . Sherwood later became Hamilton.

These were built as pedal cars, but optionally included a 6 volt motor upgrade. Some of these were also adapted for kids amusement rides. You can learn more at the CJ-3 page: https://cj3b.info/Toys/RidingToysJuniorPro.html . Not many have come up for sale, so the value is hard to ascertain.
“This is a 1947-57 junior pro products 6 volt electric jeep. JPP used to build carnival rides and then built these as pedal cars and later on optioned them with 6v power. Very rare jeep. Not a lot of info on these and not very many like this one were sold. This one came from a cushman dealership in Altoona PA. It had never been sold and was still being stored since the 50s. I’m offering it up for sale for $1200 OBO. The motor still works in forward and reverse. The tires have flat spots on them and it’s missing the v-belt for the motor and the hood. Feel free to message me if you have any questions. Thanks the price is shipped within the United States.”

This Oglesby model is missing the trailer and the windshield. The front bumper is broke as well. But, it’s only $29.99 (with $15 shipping) or less with the Make Offer option. Bidding ends at 4:19PST today.

The price of the paper ad from a Janney’s Toys catalog(?) seems crazy to me, but the ad is a neat bit of info if you own one of these two jeep toys.

Roger Martin spotted this unusual pedal jeep. It’s got very distinctive fenders. I don’t recognize it and don’t see it on Derek’s CJ-3B pedal jeep pages.

For only $2.99 you could have had Gumby, Pokey, their jeep and playmates back in 1966, at least according to this page from the Ward’s Christmas catalog Maury spotted. Someone is selling this page of the catalog for $15 (yikes).
Or for a lot more, you can have an original set in very good condition, plus a few extra figures for only $350!
Or, for $79, you can have a slightly used set from eBay.

“Metal toy Jeep and trailer made by Willy’s in the 1950’s.”
A few days ago while looking at Facebook in the Massachusetts area, this model jeep caught my eye. It was just different enough to cause me to look closer at it and, at 21″ long, I could tell it was an unusually large model. Even better, it was a very reasonable price. I contacted the seller, but, unfortunately, she was unwilling to ship it (I shed lots of tears!!). Since Ted Jordan lives in the area, I contacted him, but unsurprisingly, he had already had his eye on it. His daughter finally picked it up the other day and, thanks to Ted, we have some great detail pics of it.
According to Ted, “After closer inspection this thing is a beast weighing in at 18lbs and 21″ long and 9 1/2″ tall. Its super cool and I would have to say home made by somebody. Just doesn’t look like something you’d find at a store, very well built but also a little crude in some ways. The guy is also pretty neat; he’s molded to sit in an upright position and, although Im not sure if he was made at the time of the Jeep, he seems to fit with the size and overall look of the piece. Jeep seems to be a mix of wood and metal fenders, windshield frame, underside, and most of the small parts as well being metal.
I’ve taken the some of the pics with a few more common Jeeps (Tonka,Marx,and the small JH Millstein Glass candy container Jeep) to show the crazy size comparison. I’d love it if you could post some pics of this Jeep and see if any of the other guys have any info on this thing or anyone has ever seen one like it.”
This auction just expired yesterday ($24 starting bid). This is one case where the box may be better than the toy itself. I can’t imagine there are many of these boxes left.

Thought used, this still looks fun for kids. It’s not quite stock anymore, as a bell is installed on the front bumper (sometimes an “H” is on the hood, other times a bell); the front bumper (bumper isn’t stock either). This appears to be missing the hose and ladder as well. There is more about Fire Jeep toys on the CJ-3B Page.

I would have been 11 when this jeep and glider set was released by Matchbox. I don’t remember seeing this combo in my 1976 Christmas Sears Wish Book. I’m feeling a bit cheated!
