“1949 Willys Jeepster and good drivable condition. Three (3) speed on the column with electric overdrive. Fun weekend vehicle for the whole family, including the dog. The Jeepster is an automobile originally produced by Willys-Overland Motors from 1948 to 1950.[3] It was developed in hopes of filling a gap in the company’s product line, crossing over from their “utilitarian” proto SUVs and trucks to the passenger automobile market. The basic model included numerous deluxe features and interior fittings in addition to a high level of standard equipment that cost extra on other automobiles. A total of almost 20,000 were manufactured.”
UPDATE: Price now $11,500. Was last listed in 2018. This may have been purchased and is now being resold?

The seller notes that 1955 was the first year Warn offered the five-ring warn hubs. Actually, they (both the locking and the automatic hubs) were offered as early as 1953, according to at least two different ads. One 1953 ad (note the Feb 1953 Motor Trend Magazine for example was a full blown brochure, while this 1953 ad below was included in the September 1953 Popular Science magazine:
All that said, and back to the original purpose of this post, the wagon looks nice, though it does have an updated engine.

“For sale or trade. I am gunsmith so primary interest is firearms but no harm in asking. This is a great Willys that can be driven just the way it is or you can pursue additional restoration. Everything works, 4×4, factory Warn hub locks (first year those were offered), overdrive, front and rear PTO with a winch on the front bumper. Dual fuels tanks. Older paint still looks good, just not shiny. Seats were all just rebuilt (foam and covering) in a canvas looking modern material. Less than 200 miles on a completely rebuilt and balanced Chevy L6 250 with MSD Distributor and Electronic Ignition. Starts and hums along very smoothly. Steering is vintage and next on my restore list if I keep it. Need $12500 in cash or trade value to consider parting with this fun rig.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $22,000.
Some nice restoration work on this one.
“Fully restored. Only 35,000 original miles.”
UPDATE: Still Available.
(04/01/2020) Mechanically, this looks like it’s been thoughtfully restored. I’m just not sure how the restorer figured out what the “correct WWII Olive Drab” would be?

Robin noticed that this doesn’t have a battery box; yet it does have all the other characteristics of an M-38A1 body (and does not have the CJ-5 body branding). Anyone have any thoughts as to why?

This includes a working set of Thor Electronic Hubs (and the first pic I’ve seen of the switch to engage the hubs). These are the “Lectro-Matic” version of the hubs (there was also an automatic version). Dan documented a set of the “Lectro-Matric” hubs here.

“Anyone looking for the coolest 62 Jeep CJ5 on the planet. I got this handsome little guy up for sale. It’s beyond amazing! Everything works, every light, all gauges, the chrome winch ect…oh and there’s chrome all over the place. Original paint, Original interior.. both are in incredible condition. It’s a very unique Jeep and it’s running a Corvette engine that was installed by the original owner in the mid sixties. He was a aircraft mechanic so everything is perfect .It also has very rare Thor electronic locking front hub set . No rust anywhere and super straight. I have the those crazy off road wide white wall tires in the pics and the hubcaps. I just threw on a new set of Power King black walls to drive it around. The Jeep runs amazing! It’s got really good power and not geared that low. I have not taken it on the freeway but got it up to 60mph with no issues. This is a very special Jeep with history. Ca title & current registration in my name”

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.
Bill shared this nice looking M-38A1. The jeep’s supposed to have only 4850 miles on it, but given the engine was likely pulled and painted (and rebuilt?) at some point, I find that claim hard to believe. Perhaps they are miles after engine rebuild? There are a few other clues that body parts were repainted as well at some point.
“1955 M38A1 Willys Jeep ONLY 4,850 original miles! I’ve had a couple of these and this one drives amazing. It is super complete with all of the knickknacks even the original 50 cal gun mount as you can see in the pictures ! Currently registered, clean clear CA title in hand.

I do have a original soft top side windows and soft doors, the doors and side windows are in pretty good shape but the soft top will need a little bit of work or replaced.
