Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “1946 Willy’s Jeep with Subaru motor and chassis. A great project car that also runs.
We have more spare parts and extra tires and wheels too – all included.
Currently has a dead battery from sitting over the winter. We have used this on our property as a “mule” cart.
It is not titled, but I just called DMV and there is a simple process to take care of that to make it street legal.”

The folks at the New Salem Fire Department near Albany, New York, recently ‘restored’ what they call a “CJ-2B Attack Engine”. And, to be fair, I suppose this CJ-2A has undergone some major changes. Perhaps it should be relabeled a 1948 CJ-2RC (Riot Control) jeep?

“This vehicle is in decent running condition and decent condition for the body. It is a 4×4, good meaty tires. Has roll bar, 2 gas tanks, towbar, All working lights, new fuel pump recently put on. Had doors made for this jeep and they can be removed.
This is good for playing in the hills or summer time work vehicle. This is a classic or collectible vehicle. I am moving and I will not have a place for the Jeep. “Experimental? 312 engine was informed by the long retired pilot Air Force. Found locally near Hyde field near Andrews AFB .. 312 virtually identical to 292 without checking numbers on crankshaft. Complete except carb. Parts or restore – pto, Dana 44s, tow bar. One off hand built cap. Still has some military type script on inside of cap, looks like they used recycled ductwork or equiptment steel. Ford mustang type seats. .. no parts this on really needs to be researched. Haven’t been able to locate a VIN. Confusion as to all that have studied it. No parts sell as whole unit. Bill of Sale. Great conversation piece, yard art or rare historical piece. Pretty solid except for some floor pan and rocker repair.“

More evidence that suggests the rumor of a Spokane Jeep dealer extending CJ-2As into “CJ-2Ls” was true. Thanks to Jay for spotting it. The hardtop has a Cab Enclosure data plate, suggesting that this top is a modified (hacked) version of that top.

“1948 Willys CJ-2A Jeep complete. This jeep is perfect for a full restoration project. Engine turns over freely, but does not start. Needs brakes. It has a hard top taken from a 1/4 ton truck welded to the body. Surface rust and some sheet metal rust out (see photos).
Started restoration, but stopped due to injury and now moving. Have all the parts removed plus new 50 Amp 12 volt alternator.”

“This has been in the family since mid 1960s. Yes, it is in pathetic shape. It underwent a hack job to make into a pickup. Still has some decent body panels. Last ran ~2006 after getting new (non-stock) wiring, rebuilt knuckles/wipers, a Chevy 305 V8, and a bell housing adapter. Still has original 3 speed with lever overdrive. A new gas tank was installed at some point. Not sure if this is a parts car or if someone wants to bring it back to something functional.
Body style is 4×473 SW.
Serial No. is 12123.”
