Jerry’s father is selling this jeep he found in Wyoming (contact Jerry via FB — https://www.facebook.com/groups/18657808157/permalink/10160120357838158).
Jerry was told this was one of about a hundred that were built by an unknown company. I looked through my archives, but could not find anything exactly like this one. Anyone ever seen one like this?
For all the work that was done to create it, it seems possible that more were made. Jerry indicates that the body is galvanized. The entire top is custom, along with the fenders, and it looks like the work is reasonably good. The doors are suicide doors. The hood looks like an original part. The cowl and dash may be original, but the dash has been modified. The fan shroud is galvanized with an old electric fan.
If forced to guess, I’d say if several hundred were built, that they were older jeeps that were stripped and rebuilt. If all like this one, they were designed for colder and wetter climates (permanent hood, perm dash, and a perm heater blower), so I could imagine these would have been constructed out of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, or Northern Idaho.
Another theory is that if several hundred built, maybe they weren’t all built the same? Maybe some were more custom than others or more creative than others? That might explain some of the odd designs that we’ve seen over the years out of the northern Intermountain West? My assumption had been these were all home built, but perhaps not?

“This is my beloved 1948 CJ with a sweet homemade body made out of plate steel with the t-bucket look. It has a reproduction m38 windshield. It has the L134 with the desired kaiser SuperSonic head, t90, and dana 18. It comes on 31×10.50r15 Mastercraft mud terrain tires. This jeep gets all the attention whereever it goes. Jeep has a tabor 9k pound winch with in cab controls. The frame has been boxed. The seats are xp1000 seats out of a newer Polaris RZR. Has LED lights all the way around. Has Brennan Metcalfs tracker disc brake conversion on the front axle. This jeep is well tested on and offroad, it goes everywhere. I really hate to sell it but don’t really need 5 jeeps, and would hate to see it sit. I would like $5000”

“60’s cj5 frame and dauntless motor. 70’s t15 transmission and Dana 20 tcase. 70’s axles 4:27 gears. Disc brakes and power steering. All new clutch stuff with hydraulic master. Still needs some tweaking, maybe a different size master. Fiberglass body. Good title. Runs moves stops, but still a project.”
Looks like a great price for a fun little rig. Note the disc brake on the transfercase.

This is an interesting creature. Anyone recognize the chassis? The body looks lengthened, or is custom, or is some type of replacement body (prob out of the Philippines if a replacement).

This modified jeep has benign storage for about four decades. It’s supposedly a Metamet prototype, so, if true, this should be of interest to Metamet fans.

“Its a ww2 jeep converted to a saloon , please study the pictures carefully, note the wings, the bonnet the grill the interior, floor pan, engine bay etc etc is a willys mb jeep chassis and running gear , the jeep was originally built in 1943 first registered for road use in 1958, when the conversion was done is aprox 1966 this is the only one in the world , converted by Metamet as a prototype just one of this style built and never went into production despite showing on the brochure as the metaplan, its the swb version so the chassis has not been lengthened. “Everything works and is all there. It’s still a 6V system, has 3 sets of wheels including the original ones. It has the Koenig half cab, currently off the Jeep. It’s does have some rust but isn’t bad for a 74 year old vehicle”

(02/05/2022) This appears to be a 2A body with a Willys stamped rear body part grafted on to the back. Yet, it is missing a few 2A features in the dash and lacks a steering column hole. I’m scratching my head over this odd body.

Along with some rust, this CJ-2A has all kinds of mods. I’ve unaware of any factor “cowl cover”; that said, the place I’ve seen these cowl extensions most often is in the northern Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana areas, so maybe there was a dealer(s) in those areas offering custom cowl creations? The hardtop looks to be an aftermarket Koenig half cab.

Eric postedthis cool little jeep to the Willys CJ-2A Facebook page. His grandfather did the original work. The redesigned jeep had fallen into disrepair before Eric began the work necessary to resurrect it back to how his grandfather’s build.

(08/04/2021) This is a unique jeep that you may have see pics of around the internet/facebook. Both back axles are powered. A few readers have seen this in person and know the builder. One especially unique thing about it is that the jeep was originally a rare DJ-6.

Andy shared this rarely seen US Navy Smalley Port-O-Spot. It’s another odd utility vehicle partly built with Willys-Overland parts. Only a couple hours left in the bidding; the high bid is currently $3100.
“Made by Oxnard Heavy Maintenance & Mfg Co. Oxnard California. It has a Willys drivetrain, and it does run and drive.”

If you buy both as-is non-running $5k firm. If you want me to make them run to drive onto your trailer it will be $6k FIRM for the pair.”
Mike spotted this modified Traveller for sale out of Texas. The serial number put this at only 7 units later than Scrambleer’s (Dan) Orange Traveller (see his wagon at the lower part of this 2014 post). Given it is so heavily modified, it would make a good platform for doing something creative. It would surprise me if this was a former Border Patrol vehicle (but I see no gov plate).

“We believe this is a 1964 Jeep Willys Traveller based on the interior and exterior trim. It has been modified as shown.
It has a V8 and manual trans, 4×4. It runs well. New BFG Tires.
Would make a good hunting or other off road touring rig. It does not have a title. It comes Bill of Sale only.”
UPDATE: Price dropped to $10,500.
Ivan shared this rare jeep. It is a former fire jeep-wagon. It was likely part of a limited production model either from some Willys-licensee in Europe or a third party. It’s priced at 45,000 Plish Zlotych which equates to about $19,500 USD.
