They worked before I removed them. 

Sold by Sears MANY years ago under the name Allstate. 
They are built like a vault. They don’t make them like these anymore. 

These could be a neat addition to a period-correct Jeep restoration! 
Not pretty right now but media blast and detail them and they’ll probably clean up REALLY nice.

This looks solid. Originally a fire district jeep.

“I am selling a 1973 AMC Jeep CJ6 with a little over 6200 (not a typo) original miles on it. It was originally owned by a rural fire district. They sold it around 1990 to the man I bought it from. It had 2500 miles at that time. I bought it in 2000 when it had 4500 miles on it. I just haven’t been able to bring myself to drive it much. It also has the 304 V8 engine and a 3 speed manual. There is an old school 8000 lb Ramsey winch on the front. I put a 3 inch lift on it, and added 33″ tires and new wheels. There is no top of any kind but soft tops are still available for these. Just to clarify, this is a rare Jeep bodystyle (about 20″ longer than a CJ5) and it is an original, rust free steel body. The only partial trades i could be talked into would be old Scouts, Jeep Commandos or Wagoneers, Broncos, or full size Blazers. I am not interested in any consignment sales.”

Our wigwam for the evening . . .

We began the morning driving the I-10 to the El Capitan theatre (owned by Disney) at the heart of Hollywood. It wasn’t all clear to me how this would play out, but somehow we were going to hear Rob Richards play on one of the last five remaining “Fox Specials”, of which Farny Wurlitzer, a relative of mine, once said were his masterpieces.

Today we travelled from Ontario to Hollywood, then back out to San Bernardino.

Not enough smog in LA to block out the Hollywood sign on Sunday!

Rob was kind enough to email me back in December to tell me he’d welcome our presence at the theatre so we could meet and he could play for us. How could I pass that up? So we agreed to meet on Sunday for a 12:40pm show. I didn’t quite understand it at the time, but Rob would play music on the organ as people streamed into the theatre prior to the movie (which today was the Muppets).

At the agreed upon time, Rob whisked us inside (comped tickets no less — how do these things happen to me?) and began playing for just Ann and I. He bounced between various disney songs as the pipes and bells and whistles bellowed from the right and left of the front row.

Blurry, but you get the point. We have the theatre to ourselves for a short time. We even scored some free popcorn and a drink!

“1948 Willys Jeep CJ2-A w/ turbo charged 3.8 Buick V-6 $2000 obo

* Stretched body
* Jeepster Commando frame (101″ wheelbase)
* 231 ci Buick even fire V-6 with factory turbocharger (from 1978 Buick LeSabre)
* Turbo 400 tranny mated to model 20 transfer case
* Power steering
* Rear mounted radiator
* Full 6 point frame mounted roll cage
* Full size running gear
* 5.38 gears
* B&M quick click shifter
* 1 piece fiberglass front end
I’ve probably forgotten a lot of stuff, but you get the drift. This is a Jeep that was used for years at local races running a Pinto motor. I broke the old tranny and opted to install the V-6 and automatic, but the local races kind of went away and I never finished it and it has sat in my shop for 10 plus years. This is not a street legal vehicle, although I suppose one could make it that way with work. It is not a turn key ride and definitely does need some work to complete. The motor smokes, but I believe that it is just the seals in the turbo causing this. It needs shock mounts welded, brakes redone, seat covers are looking ratty, shifter needs some adjustment, carb may have issue. . . and I’m sure there is more that I’m not thinking of. Would make a good base for a rock crawler, tough truck rig or just a toy to blow away your friends. I hate to get rid of it but need the space in my shop. Might be willing to deliver within the Treasure Valley.”

Leigh forwarded this photo of a jeep from the Gippsland Vehicle Collection in Maffra, Australia. It doesn’t appear to be 100% correct restoration, but certainly looks in great shape. Photobombing to the left appears to be a Jeepster Commando.

This collection of motor cars is changed two to three times a year to keep the museum interesting. So, there’s not guarantee this jeep will be there during your visit.

UPDATE: I just finished reading this book.  I was hooked from page 1.  It’s an amazing tale about a man who starts the war in Norway as a Commando whose team is trying to disrupt Nazi attempts to create an Atomic bomb.  Soon, he is fighting in North Africa, where he becomes a POW.  Eventually he escapes and becomes a medic at the Russian front for the Russians as they advance westward.  Some of the details are surprising and unexpected.  While with the Russians he finds a jeep.  Commandeering it, he begins a risky trek westward with a questionable priest.

1. 1950 CJV35/U (CJ3A) Engine $600. This is the block and head from a CJV35/U Jeep. The number on the water pump boss is V11030 and it was bored .030 over. The casting number on the head is 640161 and the block is 640187-L-**-**-**. There are no noticeable cracks or damage and the engine turns freely and has compression. The engine comes with all accessories (starter, generator, distributor, intake/exhaust, carburetor, bell housing, and water pump).
2. 1946 Sheller Steering Wheel $75. One spoke has a crack but is repairable. No chunks missing.
3. (3) T90 Transmissions $100 each.
4. 1946 CJ2A Skid Plate $20.
5. (2) MB Rear Springs $100. 9 leaf rear springs from a 1943 MB.
6. (1) GPW Front Spring $50. 8 leaf front spring from a 1942 GPW.
7. (1) CJ Front Spring $50. 10 leaf aftermarket CJ spring.
8. (1) GPW Spring $50. 9 leaf GPW spring.

(11/17/2012) This appeared during one of my searches.  Looks fun so I thought I’d post it, but I couldn’t say whether it’s an accurate restoration.

“This fully restored T-15 serial number 184 has an excellent running engine and drives very nice. It runs and handles very well.

I collect WWII vehicles and equipment and open to offers.

It comes with WWII radio, headset, tools, skies/poles, sleeping bag, back pack, WWII white out military clothing, WWII boots with ice spikes, snow pack, tools and more. This is a very nice T-15 and the extra gear makes an excellent display. The engine compartment is fully detailed and extremely clean.

In 1941, the U.S. Military contracted with Studebaker Corporation of South bend Indiana to design, test and build a “top-secret” snow vehicle for commando use in Norway. As a result of this effort, the “Weasel Light Cargo Carrier” designated “T-15″ was the earliest production version. It had the engine in rear and driver in the front-center position. Approximately 750 were manufactured for the war effort.”

“BD384x4Story” is one of my comics for French magazine “4x4Story Spécial Jeep, with some of the characters: Pierre Pinifarine and his dog “GPS”, Francine Overland (the girl), Jean-Ignasi Cardan and his cat “Elvis”,  Bob Autolite (that´s me…more or less!) and the jeeps, obviously! Although I´m still questioning me the name of some characters!!!”
