(See yesterday’s post here) — Today we traveled from Yuma to Tucson, but not before I went to prison. It all started innocently enough. I went to take my shower in the morning. When I got out, I caught my wife surfing a jeep site other than eWillys!!! I thought about divorce, but it seemed like she’d get off easy. After extensive thought, I decided to tie her to some train tracks and let the train run over her. That’s reasonable, right?

The problem was, the darn train came to a stop a few feet from her. Who’d have thought that would happen? Not wanting to get caught, I tried to untie her, but that’s when the police showed up. It turns out that justice is metered out quickly at Yuma. The next thing I knew, I was hauled off to jail. First they photographed me:

Then, they dumped me in an old prison cell at the Yuma Territory Prison.

What a day! After a minute in the jail cell, I concluded I wasn’t ready to serve my full sentence, so I sought a pardon from my wife. Thankfully, the time apart had softened her hard heart from the brutal, near-death experience at the wheels of the train. We forgave and forgot, then we toured the Yuma Territorial Prison Historic State Park. It was a pretty interesting place.

“A short history of this 1962 Jeep Willys Utility Wagon: it was originally purchased in late 1962 by Motherlode Bank of Placerville, CA for use by the bank in evaluating rural properties for potential mortgages. The president of the bank bought the truck from the bank when he retired, and he left it to his son who later gave it to his nephew, who kept it on a farm near Modesto, CA. The nephew later sold it to a northern California real estate appraiser who was evaluating the farm and saw it in a barn, and he sold it to me in 2010. I found the vehicle online and had it shipped to Georgia, after many discussions with the owner and a thorough inspection in California.

Our first time in Needles, California

Today we drove from Laughlin, Nevada, to Yuma, Arizona (view yesterday’s post here). We began the day brilliantly, with a trip for ‘breakfast’ to Laughlin’s In-N-Out Burger. Ann and her gluten/beef intolerance forced her to spurn a delicious cheeseburger, but she did partake of a few of my fries. I, on the other hand, was quite pleased by my breakfast.

We drove north out of Laughlin, crossed the Colorado River, and quickly reached Bullhead City, Arizona. One of our goals was to take a photo with the city’s large tortoise. Our mission was soon accomplished.

Next, I wanted to take a few photos of the Colorado River and the casinos of Laughlin across the river. Somehow, my wife thought that meant stepping into the cold river.

The body was stretched from it’s CJ-6 size, making it not so much rare as it is custom. A neat jeep though. It’s not clear to me, but I think this was a CJ-6 stretched onto a Scrambler chassis?

The orange one is a ’48 and the engine is not installed. It needs to be assembled, but all the parts to make a running jeep are there. We also have 2 F Head engines and TONS of parts that go to the jeeps. The gray one has a clear title the other threes titles have gone missing some years ago. “For being 74 years old this old girl is in pretty good shape. This has been in our family for about 45 years has been stored under cover or inside most of it’s life. Sorry to say that it has not been run for the last 6 or 8 years but has been inside a dry storage shed that whole time. Has less then 24,000 miles on it comes with a second set of axles, another window frame and old style gas cans, and one of the original seats. Motor was rebuilt in the 70’s but it only has been used to hunt with and has probably less then 2000 miles on it since the rebuild. Still a six volt system, my father ran an 8 volt tractor battery in it. Usually you find these in a field missing a bunch of stuff, rusted out and missing the motor.”

“For sale here is a 1949 Willy’s Jeep. I inherited it from my dad, who had plans for restoring it. Being a student I do not have the funds to restore it. I don’t know much about it other than it was a barn find from Indiana. So it does have some rust damage to the body. It is a rolling chassis. It was fitted for a small block ford engine and transmission. Both of which are still in the chassis. Comes with original Willy’s hood and tailgate. I have also a small block ford long block for it as well. I believe it is the 302 with a roller cam but I honestly have no idea. But the long block was purchased from a ford salvage yard and my dad intended on putting it in the jeep at some point. I will throw in this motor and whatever other parts I have for the Jeep, included in the asking price.”
