1970 Kid 8×8 AATV **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: Other 4x4s This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.

“1970 KID 8×8. These has a very interesting military history that few know about..In a nut shell The KID was built by Kinetics International Division witch was LTV Aerospace.. Its original design was called the MAVC that later become KID 8×8.. The mule as you know was active in the military but the Kid 8×8 was a machine that was built for a platoon vehicle.. The mule was used on the base and the Kid was to follow the platoons and carry extra food, bedding, ammo and could also carry the wounded back in from the field.. the Kid 8×8 started in 1970 as a 1 seat machine for platoon use but our government had them change it to a 2 seat model with 3 point and PTO and was giving them to Asia framers to replace the water buffalos in the rice fields then Vietnam was coming to an end and they stopped sending them to Asia so LTV went after the military needs for a platoon vehicle again but our government said there’s no need because the war is over so LTV sold out inventory and closed the KID 8×8 factory.. No Kid 8×8’s seen military action because they was sent to the rice fields..

The Kid 8×8 was powered by a 4 cylinder Wisconson 30hp gas or a 4 cylinder Perkins 50hp diesel. this one is the gas model.. Its a total Hyd drive system just like the skid steers out today.. This Kid runs and works like it should with new parts in the motor and new tires and rims.. They originaly floated like a boat but i would say this one has leaks in it somewhere to use it as a boat.. The Kid 8×8 is an all metel body machine weighing around 3000lb for a base model..

I would like to find a Military Mule but i would look at other trades as this machine is for sell localy so auction can end at any time….

I have parts and options for these machines like Tracks, Dozer blades {not snow plows but they will push snow}, fender flairs, 3 point, cab options, sideboards, duel tire kits, and much much more.. Check the Kid8x8 web site for ideas.”

Saturday Update

• CATEGORIES: News This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Nothing like some growing pains!

This morning my host took down the site due to resource overage.  Something was causing my server usage to spike. I made a few changes, which seems to have resolved the issue temporarily.  So, the site is live again, but it’s really time to move it to a host that can handle more bandwidth/resources/visitors.  I’ve spent the last few hours reviewing all sorts of VPS and Dedicated hosting options, with different pricing and hosting structures.  It turns out that website hosting companies pay reviewers up to $150 each to refer customers to their hosting packages (depending on the package), so finding unbiased reports turns out to be a challenge.

If I don’t get to updates tonight, I’ll do some during the Seahawks/Falcons game tomorrow.

And, if it goes down again, know I’m working on it 🙂

Mr. Rather and His Dogs and Jeep

• CATEGORIES: Features, Library Collections, Old Images This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Walter Hill, the director of the Horry County Museum, forwarded these pics from the Museum’s archives. Great images!

“Mr. Prather owned a service station in Myrtle Beach as well.  He lived in a community on the Waccamaw River/Inter-coastal Waterway called Socastee, not far from Myrtle Beach.  Anyone familiar with the area may be familiar with the Socastee Turn Bridge that allowed road traffic across the Inter-coastal Waterway and river traffic down the Inter-coastal Waterway.

Most of the pictures in this collection appear to have been taken near the end of WWII (some images in the collection show GI’s boarding the bus at the Draft office in Conway) up to the early fifties, judging by the automobiles in the pics.  One picture shows a license tag on the jeep and I want to say it says 1952.  Maybe better eyes can tell if I am correct or not.”

My New Ford GP Bull Shirt

• CATEGORIES: News This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

I saw this silk shirt from Phat Farm on eBay.  When I showed it to Ann, she was so horrified by it she screamed.  Ok, I may be exaggerating a little.  There was no screaming; but, she was slightly horrified by it.

I tried to explain that it had the Prototype Ford GP printed on it.  How cool is that?  But, she was unimpressed.  To her credit, she liked the jeep.  It was the rest she didn’t like.

Seeing her reaction to this unique shirt was all I needed to bid on this.  I thoroughly enjoyed appearing in the kitchen wearing it and seeing her reaction.

Not surprising, I was the only person to bid on it . . .

Cragstan’s Smokey and Sandy Bear in a Jeep **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: Features, toys This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

I know Smokey the Bear, but never heard of Sandy the Bear.  This includes a box in poor condition.

“This is a vintage battery operated Cragstan Jeep with Flexible Smokey Bear and Sandy bendy figures in original box. Made in Hong Kong. Model # 2579-1. About 11″ long. Toy is in C9.5+ shape. I put batteries in and it worked well (the gear lever is the on and off switch) but the battery door can barely close due to poor manufacturing tolerances. Box is in C4 shape, pretty torn up as you can see in the pics.”

Nomura Electro Tin Jeep with Search Light and Trailer on eBay

• CATEGORIES: Features, toys This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This includes the box.

“Here’s another amazing item from my huge collection. This is a near mint example of a Japanese tin searchlight jeep with artillary trailer. Made by TN (Nomura) toys, this one has spent it’s life in it’s box and was rarely played with. There are really no issues to report. Paint is like new on both units. Lithograph on soldiers is excellent. There are no scratches anywhere. No rust. No dents, etc. Battery compartment on Jeep is excellent. I put a battery in and the searchlight and rear wheels worked fine. Artillary trailer rotates as it moves. The only issue is one of the two rivets that hold the searchlight onto it’s base has come loose. I’m sure someone could easily fix it as it just needs to be popped back in.We also have the original box with wonderful graphics. There is a hand-written “$2.00″ on the front and one corner is torn and coming loose. The base does have the carboard divider though! It’s incredible to find one in this condition with it’s box intact. Jeep measures about 7-1/2″ long and the trailer measures about 6″ long.”

1945 MB Franktown, CO **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: MB • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay

” i am listing my 1945 willys mb. this is really a very straight mostly original ww2 army jeep. this is a june 1945 willys mb serial number 450667 as the last mb serial number was 459851. almost one of the last ones. what is missing– seats, and top bows, other small stuff. what is pretty rare- all of the ww2 gauges except temp, body handles, pintle hitch, tail lights, ww2 engine(gpw 5077) t84 transmission, gas tank, rifle rack mounts, 1st aid bracket, blackout light, cat eyes, rotary light switch, voltage regulator still on fender, original air cleaner, all data plates- shipping plate, and even the original willys frame tag! i have a clear colorado title in my name also. just alot of good ww2 items still on it, not bubbafied like 90% of them. this is one of the last ones with out firewall fuel filter-no holes drilled either. i have the spare gas holder for it, and 2 bolt spare tire carrier, and spare tire support. the engine is still full of oil, and radiator holding nice green anti freeze. the motor is stuck from sitting, as is transmission. transfer case goes in and out. previous owner said he was driving it 3 years ago, then left it sit, as he was repairing the tank, which i found a correct wide mouth tank for it. the front floors are probably the worst part, but really minor rust compared to most. rear floor is very nice, as is the body. i had a 6 volt battery, and the cat eyes came on on the rotary. what is nice is the front frame horns–not been welded on or cut up!! the jeep was ww2 od, then looks like it was a korean war darker green, then air force blue. then someone did the white, and black deal on it. this should really be a nice easy project, as its mostly all there, with a good rare early ford gpw block (good trading material) has the late war mb head still. carb is a later model.”
