Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This 1956 Truck brochure targeted the export market. It’s Form W-252-6X, however it looks nothing like it’s Form W-252-6 truck brochure counterparts. It’s larger and folds out to 17″ x 22″. Why re-use the form number, but make the brochure wholly different from the domestic brochure(s)? I haven’t a clue.
This 1956 Wagon brochure Form W-253-6 likely has an export version labeled Form W-253-6X, yet I have had no luck locating it. I expect the export version design will be similar to Form W-250-6X (CJ-5/CJ-6/CJ-3B) and Form W-252-6X (Truck). This brochure opens up to 17″x11″.
This is an interesting ad that I haven’t featured in the past.

“1946 a Willys-Overlan

More vintage articles in this final issue for 1955.
This April 1946 ad from the Playthings Magazine(?) looks like an Al-Toy, though it doesn’t mention Al-Toy or West-Craft. Instead, Joseph Shaw Manufacturers seems to be taking credit for their production.

UPDATE: That’s to Mark we’ve learned that at least one of these ads ran in the October 1950 issue of Capper’s Farmer magazine.
I don’t remember running across this ad. Note the lack of ‘Jeep’ promotion, part of Willys shift to the promote the Willys branding across the models.

This is the last page of the Press Release. One thing that caught my eye is that every jeep shown here, based on what I can see, came equipped with dual windshield wipers. I tried to discover when wipers were required on all vehicles, but did not locate that info.

Here’s another of my favorite issues of Willys News, as it includes a photo of our good friend Hugo Vidal as he and his two traveling companions (only Charles and Hugo are shown in the pic waving good bye) were about to depart Philadelphia in their trusty CJ-3B for their drive to Alaska.
Also in this issue is an image showing some of the brochures available to dealers. There are two new brochures added since the January 1955 Willys News showed these brochures: 1) The Willys Utility Wagon Brochure and 2) the introductory 1956 DJ-3A Brochure (not available to dealers until 1956).
This rare 1980 Malotte Manufacturing brochure for fiberglass bodies was an interesting one to run across, as it includes a couple eastern dealers (see bottom image). This might explain where some of the older fiberglass bodies in the PA/OH area originated.

“1947 Canadian Willys-Overland print ad Willys Jeep. Original paper item measures 10 X 14 inches (approx.).”
This Willys-Overland of Canada Limited wagon ad is listed as a 1945 ad, but given the wagon wasn’t introduced until mid-1946, I’d say that date is a mistake. The text mentions the “new, rugged Willys Trucks”, which weren’t introduced until mid-1947. That style of wagon was used in numerous 1948 ads and the Willys-Overland graphic made an appearance in some of the 1948 ads, too. The lack of any mention of the wagon being a jeep is curious, as Willys-Overland didn’t make a big push on dropping ‘Jeep’ from its advertising until late 1949.

This ad appeared in the February 20, 1948, issue of the Oxford Leader, out of Oxford, Michigan.
This Willys News issue was memorable for me because when Hugo Vidal was visiting our home from Brazil in 2017, prior to the Alaska trip, I shared some of the Willys News issues with him. He thoroughly enjoyed looking through them because he recognized some of the sales people. When he saw Hickman Price’s photo on the front page, he said, “Oh him, I remember”. That is when I realized that the history I’d collected was a history he’d experienced!
This soldier has a jeep and a wife, but now finally has the toaster he’s always wanted. I guess life is complete?

“1944 Toastmaster Toasters Appliances Just Married Jeep Vintage Magazine Print Ad 5-1/2″ x 13″”
I don’t remember where I obtained this unique flyer, but I don’t think I ever scan and posted it. I’d guess it is from around 1955. It’s quite later, approximately 11″x20″.
If you collect prototype images and other things, the unusual card in the middle of the three below would be a cool find.

“This is a set of 3 cut out and color cards from Nabisco Shredded Wheat on How America Travels. It includes an Army Jeep, Navy Battleship, and Navy Patrol Bomber. They are in good condition with some light stains. The cards are numbers 27, 33, and 36.”
This 1955 Willys News includes a center article on the use of Jeeps in case of atom bombs.
I’m not entirely sure what this ad from the September 1955 issue of Fire Engineering is advertising, but the jeep looks pretty interesting. You can find an archived issue of the magazine online (though you’ll need to pay to access the info).

Ebay of Canada has a 1950? German flyer for what looks to be a CJ-3A. The flyer is located in France, so it’s not cheap to get to the US.
