This ad was produced in 1947.  Was that big bumper part of a service package of some kind?  I’m surprised to see it appear in an ad.

Willys Overland Dealer Banner on eBay

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

It looks like this was taped together and then the tape was removed.

” You are bidding on an original dealer showroom window banner/poster for Willys-Overland motor vehicles.  It measures 14″ x 37-3/4″ and is a used, original.  It comes in 2 pieces.  Item is most likely from the early 1950’s.  This would be a great addition to your Willys-Overland literature collection.  Frame it or post it on the wall as is.  I believe the edges originally had glue on them like an envelope.  One can see where these were stuck onto a window and then removed.   The one on the right has a 5″ seam tear.”

1948 Truck Ad on eBay

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

I thought this was an interesting ad.  The two ‘selling’ points in this 1948 ad for the Willys Trucks are that they save on gas and oil & that they have a tight turning radius.

“JEEP” means WILLYS Ads

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Paul forwarded this.  I have a variety of brochures & Ads, but not this one.  The slogan “JEEP” means WILLYS is an interesting intellectual property strategy.  Just another way to intertwine the two meanings.

Gerald forwarded pictures of this sign (thanks!).  While the Willys Wagon is featured prominently on this sign, I couldn’t find any evidence of its existence elsewhere within the restaurant.  Layton’s is located in Ocean City, Md, and is supposed to be pretty good according to Urbanspoon.

Willys Overland Panel Delivery Van (Going to Jesse’s)

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, FJ • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE II:  See the latest — The Van is headed West.

From August, 2011:  Glenn recognized the Willys Van for sale.  Even more impressive, he found a brochure for one!  Well done! He bought the Sales Folder off eBay about a year and a half ago. Mfg. by Plaza Motors, Inc. Englewood, NJ and was Willys-Overland Factory Approved.

Based on the emails between Colin and Glenn, there were at least three groups of Willys-Overland Delivery Trucks produced:

1) One group was produced during or just prior to WWII (as seen below)

Here is a 1942 Panel Delivery Truck:

2) One group was produced during post WWII and pre 1950, which appears to include the Willys Van owned by Mike. The brochure provided by Glenn also appears to be related to this second group.

3) One group was produced between 1951 and 1953, based on these serial numbers.

The numbers below are for post 1950 FJs. This one appears to be a pre-1950 FJ. We are still awaiting a serial number.
1951 FJ 451 GC1 10001— none
1953 FJ 452 GC2 10001—10065 65 built
1954 FJ454 GC2 10001—10012 12 built

Ann and I Visit the WAAAM at Hood River, Or

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Artists/Drawings, Features, Museums • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

While driving to Vancouver on Monday, Ann and I decided to visit the five year old Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum (WAAAM).   So, about noon we pulled off I-84 and drove into downtown Hood River expecting to locate the museum quickly.  However, it turns out the museum is located a few miles away from town near the airport.  As soon as we realized we didn’t know where we were going, we cranked up the GPS and that guided us up the hill and over a dale or two.  We even passed a FC-170 off to our right.  Finally, we arrived at Air Museum Road.

Since it was Monday at noon, there wasn’t a flood of visitors, which worked out great for us because the staff could take the time to explain and answer all of our questions.  In fact, everyone was noticeably friendly and knowledgeable.

The first thing we learned is that WAAAM has one of the largest collection of working antique planes and vehicles in the country.  All the different planes, tractors, jeeps, automobiles, trucks, motorcycles are housed in two giant hangars with multiple exits.  In fact, some of the planes and vehicles are privately owned, but stored free of charge at the museum.  Owners can come in most any time and take their property out to fly or drive them.

Every month the museum holds a “Second Saturday” event.  That’s when volunteers arrive to give rides and show off the vehicles.  In May of 2012, a special Military Day will be held on the Second Saturday. That date is May 12th and I’ve been invited to talk a little about jeeps and sign books (and maybe ride in a jeep or two???).  It should be fun!

Here’s an introduction to the museum:

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCSFuoSiEzo

While I had fun looking at all the cars and planes, it was the jeeps I was there to see.  We saw the following jeeps:

1941 MB Slat Grille

Undated MB

Great old Jeep Sign at Brileya’s Chrysler Jeep Dealership
