“Project or parts. fiberglasstub and fenders fenders, metal hood”
Yesterday, with cold weather arriving soon, I took advantage of a warm, but very windy day, to pull Biscuit off the trailer and put it on the hoist. Now, all three jeeps are in the shop.
But, before we gathered the jeeps, both Ann and her son Daniel, who has been helping us around the property, each took the race jeep for a run in the pasture.
Here I am giving Daniel a ride. Unfortunately, my long legs preclude me from shifting into second gear (that’s how tight it is). Once I fix that, I can go much faster.
Here are some still shots. First up is Ann in the cockpit:
Here’s Daniel just finished with a run around the pasture:
Ann’s stomach surgery this summer, which as helped her in numerous ways, including solving her several adverse reactions to gluten (unsure why?), has also helped her lose quite a bit of weight. This has helped reduce her over all pain and also allows her to easily fit into the race jeep. Though she didn’t drive too fast, she did have fun racing around our back pasture. Once she gets used to it, I expect she will enjoy racing at a PNW event.
Blaine spotted this built racer used during the 1980s.

“Selling for a friend, jeep is located in Crescent City.

AMC 304 V8 engine:
Engine was professionally built in Phoenix Oregon. Engine has been balanced, blueprinted, line honed, decked, slabbed, ported, and polished. Bored 10 over. TRW flat top pistons have been fly cut for the proper valve relief. Heads are the highly sought after and coveted pre smog 3196291C small chamber with the dog leg ports. Original factory heads were 58.92 cc with 1.625/2.025 valves. These heads have been professionally reworked per the American Motors “Performance American Style” guide to high performancing AMC engines (original AMC book included). Heads are the 291C 50.60 cc with balanced chambers. Original factory compression ratio was about 7.2:1 Flat top pistons and the small chamber heads now put this engine slightly over 10.4:1. Rods were all balanced and shot peened.Cam is a 274 duration .500 lift hydraulic
UPDATE: Price dropped to $4000.
(11/05/2021) Looks like a good price. Has a fiberglass body (possibly a Bobcat body). Sounds like it has a non-functional overdrive.

“Selling my project CJ2A. I just don’t have time to work on it.
Vehicle runs and drives, but I overjetted the carb when I brought it down from Colorado, so it’s very rich and hard to start.
Jeep features:
full fiberglass tub and hood
a buick oddfire v6 swap
transfer case overdrive (currently non-functional)
tilt steering
electric fuel pump
besttop soft tub and full soft doors (not pictured but included)”
Looks like a good project.

“This is a titled 1947 Jeep. $6,000 OBO. It has a M38 body and engine. This Jeep runs but currently has the fuel tank out since the tank it came with when I got it was for a CJ2A. I have a brand new M38 tank to install. I have also replaced three of the four brakes (cylinders and pads) and have the forth one plus master cylinder on hand. I just haven’t had time to install it. This sale will include both fuel tanks and the remaining brake parts and every thing you see in the photos and the spare M38 engine. This is a project jeep with straight body with no rust.”
Not sure what the vision is here, but maybe someone can use the parts.

This video from the Ontario County Historical Society. It shares some of John North Willys’ early history. Note that the historian uses the Williez pronunciation of the nation, which likely will grate with some folks.
UPDATE: This video is making the rounds on FB, again, so, I figured I’d repost it.
Original Post March 2017: Listed as a 1940s promotional film, the inclusion of CJ-5s and the exclusion of DJs and FCs suggests to me it was created in 1955. There’s an extended look at a cargo personnel carrier near the end of the video There are also a variety of specialized equipment and hardtops shown.
Tom spotted this CJ-3A that’s listed as a 1948.

“Dismantled down to frame sand blasted and painted new body with military top new tires / tubes, new wheel cylinders & master cyl, new gas tank, new seats, has rumble sea”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1850.
Looks in decent shape and includes extra rims/tires.
“$1,850 – Or Best Offer
For a 75-year-old trailer, this one is in pretty excellent shape. This is either a 1946 or 1947 Bantam T3-C 1/4 ton trailer. I’ve owned it for a couple of years now, with the intention to turn it into a overland like trailer.
I have an extra set of rims with military style tires, but all these tires need to be replaced, the rubber is pretty old on these. All the rims are in inner tube style rim as well. The bolt pattern is 5×5.5″ with a hub opening of a hair over 4.75.”

Phil’s father’s 1943 MB(?) was stolen from his father’s property in Philipsburg, MT, around October 1st.
“This Jeep was stolen from my Dad’s property in the Philipsburg area on or around October 1st. The Jeep is a 1943 Willy’s Military Jeep. It is a unique custom build with a lifetime’s worth of work done to it. One of the most notable features it has a 3.3 Cummings diesel motor. Reward if found!”
Here are two pics. Other features not mentioned by Phil include the CJ-2A windshield, a replacement body with an M-38 fuel tank, CJ rims, a slat grille and a square-tubed roll bar.
This 2A has a variety of updates.

“1947 willys jeep, new aftermarket tub.original fenders, hood, gate, window frame. Drivin around 1k miles since finished.clean IN title.Trades of equal value may be considered.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $6500.
Seems like a good price. Seller is very clear that it isn’t a perfect vehicle, but it does run and drive.
“1953 Willys jeep cj3b Starts right up and drives but it is almost 70yrs old. This thing is slow, bumpy, wanders all over the road, drips fluids and the brakes are like rubbing to blocks of wood together. But it’s an Absolute blast to drive. Was driving to work and school daily, now it’s not getting driven enough and I have other projects I’d like to get too. Mostly original. But there are a few modern additions. Electric wipers, electric fuel pump, modern air filter (I do have the original air canister filter) Minimal rust nothing cancerous that I know of just some light surface in a few places. Newer paint job, white exterior and black monstaliner in the inside tub. New seat upholstery, New tube in the tires and tires are in great shape. Starter and t-case rebuild 2yrs ago I want to be clear this is not a perfect vehicle, it leaks fluid, body isn’t perfect, paint isn’t perfect. This is not a show vehicle nor is the asking price. It is a driver”
This jeep has a fiberglass body, but also appears to have a Tux Park package.

Carl shared this video of a General Electric test robot (seems like a forerunner of the Boston Dynamics robots) pushing a VEC CJ-2A (which had seen better days — has the f-head bump, side damage, etc) out of a ‘ditch’. The Jeep portion begins at the 6:07 mark.
UPDATE: Still Available.
(08/28/2021) It’s a project.
https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lgb/cto/d/long-beach-1950-willys-cj3a-project/7392542964.html
“Rolling project. Most of the hard stuff is done.
Rust free tub, nice and straight. Some small damage on the passenger side (see photo). The frame is not boxed.
Strong 289. Cammed and stroked to 305. Holley TA-II carb. Dual Flowmasters.
Original 3-speed Transmission and D18 Xfer case.
I have a NP435 and Novak adapter kit to mate with a D20 transfer case. Rebuild kits for both, new 6 spline main shaft for the transmission, and new input gear for the transfer case. Everything is there to build it out and hook it up to the D44’s. The transmission was rebuilt for a 2wd, so it will need to be redone to mate with the transfer case.
Frame horns extended and shackles reversed. Saginaw steering already swapped in.
EZ Wire 12 fuse mini kit. (I don’t think they offer this kit anymore). The wiring is not finished, but the engine wiring is roughed in and it will run. New alternator and relay, fusible link etc…
